Good, very good, not outstanding. There are better places for me in Bristol, Bath and Cheltenham. A bit annoying that most of the dishes recently posted on their Instagram are no longer on the menu after just a week. I loved the potato beignet 'snacks', had a delicious garlic soup and a so-so prawn blini dish (far too much chopped fennel on it). Rubbish french fries, dry, my boyfriend makes better at home. Very nice chocolate pudding with a lovely cream.Very uncomfortable small wooden seats, doesn't inspire you to feel comfortable and have a long lazy meal. Environment generally not comfortable or relaxing.Service was good until a large family of regulars showed up and were fawned over whilst we were then ignored mostly, left with empty glasses etc. I usually leave a generous cash tip on top of service charge but chose not to due to this.I'm not planning to return I'm afraid.

We chose to lunch here after reading a very good review in a national newspaper. We were not disappointed. We had two different bar snacks, starters, mains and desserts. All were excellent, very flavoursome and well presented. The waitress was most helpful and made the experience relaxed and enjoyable. I particularly liked being able to select a different wine to accompany each course.

Thoroughly enjoyed a private fine dining experience here yesterday. The staff were excellent, very knowledgeable and couldn't do enough for us - always there to fill up glasses, order separate drinks, bringing out canapes etc. The food was to die for and was great for the chef to come out and chat to us about what we were about to eat. Would highly recommend!

Menu was so good that we struggled to choose. All the food we ordered, which was something for every course, was delicious. Particular highlights were the tartare, cods roe and the lemon cream dessert. Service was lovely and the restaurant is beautiful. We were downstairs which I think is a nicer space to sit. Expensive but worth it.

Having read both positive and negative reviews my partner and I decided to give this place a try, we are so pleased that we did, the food was fabulous, the staff efficient and friendly ( Alfie our waiter gave great advise on the wine selection ). Well worth a visit in our opinion.

I was very lucky to eat here last night. My daughter and her boyfriend live a short walk away and so as it’s a new-ish restaurant, were keen to try it out. As I was visiting, from Surrey, this was a great excuse for a cheeky Thursday night meal out. I ordered the rose veal with celeriac and a fried egg. This was superb! Tasty and beautifully cooked. For pud I chose the frangipane tart with blood orange. Oh my, this was probably the best frangipane tart I’ve had, and I’ve had a few haha! Other dishes tried were Gilt Head Bream, ox cheek, Amalfi lemon pot ( super lemony and delish) and rice pudding. All washed down with a tasty bottle of wine. Will definitely be returning. Oh and the service was great too. Cheery and knowledgeable, just what we like. Well done 1 York Place. The only downside is that it’s in Bristol and I’m not…. But I know my daughter and boyfriend will be bringing friends along soon.

The place rules. All the food was dank and generous portions. Go for the bream and then the rice pudding or frangipane

We enjoyed a beautiful lunch here last Friday which was a welcome break from a stressful week. The food was excellent, Front of House staff attentive & friendly and the wine delicious. We enjoyed a selection of snacks and starters but my favourites were the whipped cod's roe, the tomato & smoked pork belly and the prawn blini . The hake was cooked to perfection and the ox cheek rich, deeply tasty and satisfying. We finished with the lightest of marmalade sponge puddings, the exquisite lemon cream and a perfect paring of gorgonzola and pear washed down with a delicious fortified red wine (not port) that I forget the name of. This sister restaurant to Little French is really developing a well deserved reputation for scrumptious food prepared by a talented team of young chefs and served by a welcoming FOH team. (Sorry, enjoying ourselves so much we forgot to take any photos!) Thank you. We'll be back!

Oh wow this was rough. Everything went wrong. Really bad food. Overcooked scallops, sweetbreads taste of nothing, everything was either flavourless or wayyy too salty, had to send rice dish back as I couldn’t eat it. We skipped dessert after that. Bad service, lots of staff but no one checking on anyone. They forgot our drinks twice. Had to go upstairs to the bar 3 times to ask for our drinks and also to pay the bill as no one was coming over. We waited a hour between starters and main courses. The acoustics are so loud that none of us could hear anything. The tables are cramped and we had to move the table to allow people out to the toilet. Was excited for this place. So disappointed

What a wonderful addition to the Bristol scene. We were seated upstairs, which is quite small and narrow, decorated in natural textures and a pale palette. We started with Queen scallop in vermouth butter, they were stunning, I could have eaten very many more of them! I chose a glass of Libertine rosé to go with the scallops. I followed that with the slow cooked ox cheek, cab nero and mash all swimming in an unctuous treacle dark Pedro Jimenez sauce. It was fabulous washed down with a Portuguese Red. My son had the rose veal schnitzel, topped with a fried egg and a celeriac remoulade. There was a good choice of dessert, I plumped for the frangipane with bitter orange, and treated myself to a Santorini spritz. My son had the marmalade sticky pudding. Both rounded off the meal perfectly! I enjoyed it so much that we've already booked again.

It took 75 minutes before any food arrived. The soup was Luke warm and gloopy. The sweetbreads were stone cold and served with anchovies and salsa verde, very clashing flavours and textures. The acoustic was very bad, to the extent it was hard to hear a conversation on your own table. The wine was expensive.
