Lovely funky friendly pub with tons of personality, interesting things on tap and nice staff.

The team here were amazing! We celebrated 3 birthdays here with a table of about 21/22 of us and they really made us feel welcomed. The food was timely, correct and tasted great! The prices were definitely fair for the service also! They couldn't do any more for us even if they tried! 10/10!! Especially the guy with the curly hair and glasses! Made us feel welcomed and even gave us a couple of free baby guiness !!

Roasts were 10 10, and amazing selection of local beers???

As good a roast you can hope for in a pub. I went for the trinity of meats, on which the chicken element was unfairly meagre in size. I pointed this out and they were happy to put it right and bring more :) Extra gravy was available, and an array of condiments. Good selection of beers and ciders, friendly staff, nice atmos in the garden on a Sunday afternoon.

Great place for a pint after work or shopping, inside was full but plenty of space uncover outside, nice to see a box of still cider on the bar!

Actually found this place on a whim - was strolling past and me and my friend wondered into the beer garden (was drawn in by some sweet graffiti!). Lovely pub, delicious pints, and a great atmosphere will definitely be coming back here :)

We popped in for a Sunday roast this week having found the Volunteer Tavern almost by accident. Both the food and atmosphere were amazing. It had a wonderful community pub feel and the staff clearly work hard to make it a relaxed, fun and friendly experience for customers. There’s also a hidden gem for Simpsons fans. We’ll be back next time we are in Bristol!

The staff are very friendly and professional, and the whole place has a nice, casual, communal atmosphere. I also LOVE the food from La Cocina. I'm from California, and one of the things I've missed in Bristol is good Mexican food. La Cocina fills that craving nicely!

Really disappointed. I’ve been to this pub in the past and roast were delicious and the pop ups are always amazing. Unfortunately this Sunday, the food was pretty poor quality, with everything very very cold. The meat was overdone (said rare-medium beef as standard on the menu, but it was well done), 3 potatoes were cold (seemed like they came out of a frozen bag) and not crispy at all, one half of an undercooked parsnip and one half of a carrot, some cabbage, the pure was cold and so was the gravy. I asked for a jug of gravy - specified for it to be *hot*. No one checked back on our table/food so couldn’t give feedback, even after asking for hot gravy, no one ever asked if everything was okay with the food. Didn’t want to make a big deal as visited for a birthday, but would have complained and asked for money back.

One of the best off the cuff pub meals I've had for a while. We ordered the chicken wings (skinny but tasty), calamari (garlic sauce was amazing) chicken dirty frys... yummy and the corn on the cob which wad presented well and tasted amazing.. booze also good and cheap.. 2 rounds and and dinner...

Amazing 100/100 roasts. Me and my friend had a range of roasts vegetarian pork and Beef and all were amazing. We were told our roasts were going to take a little longer which was okay and they gave us extra cauliflower cheese to make up for it. I will defo be returning for some cheesecake !!

This is fast becoming my favourite roast in Bristol, everyone gets a yorkie and all the trimmings. Really friendly and lively atmosphere, can get busy on a Sunday so I recommend booking.Vegetarian options: They offer a vegan and veggie alternative

We tried the new menu on opening day and we’re blown away ! Fresh, vibrant flavours & exciting new combos : never had nachos like that before . The cauliflower wings were certainly big enough to share . I went for Buffalo sauce which I thought was medium spiced though my dinner date rated then as very spicy Staff were great tooDefinitely check out La Cocina food and spread the word !Huge thanksVegetarian options: Had jackfruit but also plantain as the meat free optionsDietary restrictions: They were happy to tweak dishes to suit any needs as it’s all prepped fresh
