What a shame, previous owners gone, and with them the pride of delivering a great British classic. Batter was greasy and well under cooked, as where the chips. I noticed that the plaice, haddock and cod were all identically priced too?.Shame really, good luck to the new owners.

I recently had a disappointing experience at The Golden Fry. Despite craving just a bag of chips, I was informed they only serve customers paying cash unless the purchase exceeds £5. Fine, I thought, and placed an order totaling £5.60, paid with my card. Then, realizing I forgot to order a drink, I tried to add one, only to be told there's a minimum £5 spend. Inconsistent policies and inconvenience made this visit less than golden.

I thought i would give this chippy another chance as previously i tried the food after the old owners left and the food wasnt great,infact it was terrible.Having tried the food again i have to say it was all absolutely disgusting..The chips are pale and undercooked,the fish was not edible.Had to throw all the food in the bin.I don't no how these people think they can serve food looking like it does.I don't now how this establishment has over 4 stars? Its such as a shame as the old owners knew how to cook food and it was always delicious and had a good reputation.I can definitely say I will never eat at this place again!!!

I visited Golden Fry last week and I won't be going back again. The food was absolutely terrible. I ordered fish, chips and mushy peas for my wife, and I had 2 battered sausages & a curry sauce. The chips were anaemic, the mushy peas tasted like water and the battered sausages were lukewarm with soft batter. As for the fish, it was off and smelt terrible. My wife couldn't even bear try it, so we threw it away. A complete waste of £20 and hugely disappointing.

We was out in town ,we did feel a bit hungry so we ordered what we wanted ,no from £20 ,4 chips. 2 battered sausages and 2 plain sausage s ,we wish we hadn’t bothered with them ,the chips was hard and tasted different plus the battered sausages was horrible ,even the other sausages wasn’t nice ,sorry to say it gone down hill a lot since ,it’s under new management ,we won’t be returning

Improving the cooking time and temperature would greatly enhance the overall quality of the dish.Additionally, the batter on the fish lacked the desired crispiness that is characteristic of a well-prepared fish and chips. The batter seemed to be soggy and failed to deliver the satisfying crunch that makes this dish enjoyable. A crisper batter would significantly elevate the taste and overall experience.Another aspect that bothered me was the increasing prices. It's understandable that businesses need to adjust their prices over time, but the frequent price hikes at Goldenfry were rather disheartening. It feels like I'm paying more for a subpar experience, which is not something any customer wants to feel. It would be beneficial for the establishment to reassess their pricing strategy to maintain a fair balance between quality and cost.Lastly, it was inconvenient that Goldenfry doesn't accept card payments for amounts under £5. In this day and age, many people rely on electronic payments for their convenience and security. Limiting card payments to a certain threshold can be an inconvenience, especially when customers may not have enough cash on hand. It would be wise for the establishment to consider expanding their payment options to accommodate a wider range of customers.Overall, my visit to Goldenfry left me dissatisfied. The consistent issue of undercooked chips, lackluster batter, increasing prices, and limited payment options for smaller amounts were all significant drawbacks. While I appreciate their efforts, these issues hindered my enjoyment of the meal. I hope the management takes these concerns into consideration and works towards improving the overall quality and customer experience.

1st time since has changed ownership. Freshly cooked Haddock & Cod - Fish a decent portion size. But batter was an oily soggy sticky mess which even the greaseproof paper can't handle. Either your oil temperature needs to be higher or you need to change your batter recipe. Chips need longer cooking or oil temperature needs to be higher as above. Really disappointed ?

This place used to be good. Just had the most lukewarm crunchy bag of reheated chips in years. Rude service also. Do not recommend.

The worst batter. Complained about how soggy it was and they said that’s how it supposed to be. Never have I had such soggy undercooked batter. I was genuinely shocked that they were ok with this batter. Dinner ruined. Never again. Customer service is awful.

Popped in while passing & was pleasantly surprised, although they could do with listening more as the missed Mrs.B's Fish off the order, meaning we then had a bit longer to wait, good job the Fish, Chips & Savaloys were Yummy, & not to bad value.
