Good food and ambience and great service. We thought it was quite expensive for a hotel restaurant so probably wouldn't book again. Ok for a special occasion.

Enjoyed an excellent meal in tasteful surroundings alongside an impressive waterwheel.

Awful birthday lunch at this hotel - I would not return. Myself and a a mature friend were celebrating our birthdays and chose this hotel because it comes across as a select location. They placed a family with 4 noisy kids in a small room with us in an area of the restaurant. We asked to move and was told there's nowhere to go. I found a table for myself and they agreed we could move there. Customer service needs to be improved.

Excellent food but not wide enough choice. Slightly spoiled by a noisy wedding party

Attractive and comfortable restaurant- the mill wheel is an interesting feature. Service was attentive and food was well presented.

We had a really great time and excellent food and wine. The food is amazing, delicious and beautifully presented. Our waiter Leo was extremely good and helpful and so lovely. Can recommend the asparagus starter and the cheese. We had lamb for main and it was cooked to perfection- the cutlets were pink, not bloody and the lamb belly was just delicious. Sticky toffee pudding went down a treat with him but I could have done with more strawberries in the Eton mess- it was still lovely

The restricted menu (5 starters and 5 mains) consisted of several bizarre dishes (the first being chicken stuffed with Gorgonzola). We opted for a light starter of warm bread, which when it arrived had obviously been left heating for far too long and was biscuit-like and tasteless. Our complaint was greeted brusquely ('so it's not to your taste') and though we were not charged for it nor were we offered a replacement or alternative. Nor was there an apology. We did ascertain, however, that there was a new chef on duty. The safest main course seemed the sirloin steak, which did in fact prove to be delicious, though not very refined in presentation terms. We decided not to have a dessert, for which there seemed to be no menu in any case. We ordered two glasses of red wine with the meal. Although we each chose a different wine I am pretty certain that we were given wine from the same bottle, for they tasted identical, and rather mediocre. The waiter was pleasant but very young, inexperienced and apparently untrained (he could not, for example, describe the special). The 'manager' who dealt with our complaint about the bread was polite but, I felt, dismissive of our response to the food.

Attentive but not obtrusive staff. The food was excellent, living up to 2 AA rosettes

Waterwheel menu was very limited for vegetarians. Only a vegan option existing, which is not the same as a vegetarian option. Experience was nice, and the service was excellent, but very over priced for what it was.

The service was excellent, the ladies were attentive and very helpful when asked for their recommendations. Food was hot, very tasty and perfectly cooked - we had fish, so particularly important - and the meal was served promptly.

We went for afternoon tea on Mothers' Day. On arrival we were shown to a small side room which might have been a meeting room or a small private dining room with a restricted view of the car park. It had five or six tables, and we were the third group there. The empty tables had dirty plates, cutlery and remnants of food on them which were not cleared while we were there. Not the most pleasant of spaces, and it felt totally characterless. From arrival to a pot of tea being delivered took a little over 30 minutes, and they forgot an additional drink we asked for - it was not on the bill so they must not have ordered it. The food arrived some five to ten minutes later and was not particularly generous or carefully presented; there was no explanation of what was what from the person who delivered the tiered stands to the table. The sandwiches were tasty, but the bread dry. The savoury selection had the look and texture of having been under a hot lamp for quite a while. It was poorly presented and unappetising. The hot crumpet with marmite butter was cold, rigid, and there was no marmite butter on it or brought to add to it. The sweet selection was good, but the portions were small and there was no apparent effort with the presentation. We saw no staff while we ate and honestly didn't feel like walking round to find them to ask for the missing items. We paid at the bar and left. The staff were clearly tired on what must have been a busy day, and I can't help but feeling the place had over reached to put on lunch and afternoon tea, and presumably dinner later. The experience does not suggest things would be worth going back for another time.

Unfortunately we were not seated in the waterwheel room, although there was space. We were seated in the garden room, with no atmosphere for afternoon tea, when we had booked lunch. The food was good when it arrived.

We came for a Mothers day meal, but left disappointed. Unfortunately the service was very slow and the meat was poor quality. It was tough and fatty. We were disappointed with the poor quality of the food, even though it was nicely presented. The fish was very good apparently just the beef was very poor. It got noisy when the waterwheel room was full but this was not a major issue. Unfortunately we would not make the effort to come for a special occasion again and would not recommend it. For larger functions I think it is a better venue, but for just food it was not worth it.

I was under the impression that the waterwheel restaurant was a different restaurant entirely but in fact it is a room off of the bar/lounge restaurant. It was a Thursday night so not particularly busy. We had starters which at £11 each were over priced for what we received. I fully understand al a carte but the terrine was nice in flavour. The garlic mushrooms were the weirdest breaded garlic mushrooms we have ever seen. They were mainly the stalks of the mushroom and very lacking in flavour. The steaks were good and we did really enjoy those along with a nice bottle of Malbec. However it was all a very underwhelming experience all in all.
