Gastropubs in Chester

“Tried to book on the off chance on a Sunday lunchtime. They were really accommodating and honest, about the availability, and got us in. Service was rapid. Food was solidly good. Sunday lunch was generous and the steak pie was generous.Plus it's dog friendly.Clearly a popular weekend lunch spot as there was only 1 table slot available after ours”

“I stayed in Premier Inn next door, so had evening meal here. Very nice helpful staff, only small down side; if your on your own its bar service giving table number, so you could lose your table if busy if no coat or item to show table taken. Nice menu, little limited for veggies, however I had a very nice cheese pie with mash and peas, which I very much enjoyed. Reasonable pricing for food and drinks, they also run promotational nights, ie..Currey night including a drink etc. I would recommend you give this place a go, if you havent been before. I personall would be back next time in Chester.”

“Well worth breaking off the City walls walk at Bridgegate to visit this Grade I listed, 17th century building.”

“Miles better since the new management have taken over.... Consistent opening times is a must if this pub is to live up to it's potential. I've planned to visit a couple of times recently and it's been closed unfortunately, actual opening times online or on the exterior of the pub would help the pub grow... Potential regulars will think twice about heading over if the inconsistencies continue. Very clean & tidy with great service when open.”

“Every visit to the Red provides excellent quality home cooked food, delivered promptly by attentive staff.Whenever it’s a miserable weekend, I’d never doubt taking the family to the Red knowing we will be well fed and watered for a reasonable price.”

“Went with a friend for lunch. The staff were lovely. We had a small plate, garlic mushrooms on sourdough toast. It was so tasty.”

“Quiet country pub with fancy overpriced menu. Nice location, spacious interior and friendly staff. My main course - the lamb rump - was disappointingly small especially for nearly £20. Why the need to skimp on the veggies? My starter, on the other hand, was exquisite: Chorizo jam and mozzarella filled doughnut. I almost wish I'd had that for starter and main!”

“Big place with nice spots for getting together. Pool, darts inside and large beer garden for adults, kids and dogs. Puts on a good food menu although we didn't participate this time. Bus stop close by if you don't want to drive. Two cask ales on (Timmy Taylor Landlord, Doom Bar).”
