I only wish this was a little closer.... 265 miles is a long way to go for a pie :) but worth it.

A great experience. We were half way through a circular walk on the Fells, and I didn't miss not having a sneaky pint.It was a freezing and blisterery day, but we were well looked and and even got a bowl of hot chips, despite them stopping hot food.

So disappointed that, after driving 60 miles to visit this inn and the nearby waterfall, there was just a notice on the door saying CLOSED! This in spite of their website stating that their Monday opening hours are 10.30 till 2.30. Make sure to ring and check they are actually open before you go. We had been looking forward very much to visiting so were very disappointed. Other people also arriving and expecting to be able to have lunch there.

We rang the day before coming here to ask if it was possible to have dairy free food. It was the last day of our holiday and it was supposed to be something nice to do, and it was difficult to get there because we have a disabled person in our family. However, when we got there we were told that in fact the only dairy free thing was a lettuce sandwich, and there were no other cakes or sandwiches without dairy. The owner was very unpleasant and said that we couldn't expect her to have dairy free food in the countryside, which would have been fine had she told us this when we rang. We decided to leave and she was then very rude to a young member of our family and when we mentioned that one of our family was autistic, she made a very rude and derogatory comment about autism.

We never stayed there but we stopped for a coffee ( rijo) very nice served in the historic parlour, I could have sat there all day in my comfy leather arm chair looking at what must have been a very happy cosy farmhouse parlour. They also have a good menu for the hungry travelers and I will defo be back

Lovely place but gave 4 stars only because the steak and ale pie was very salty. Portions good size. Didn’t have a pudding as I was too full but will return. Fridays are our day good value pie and drink for just under £10x

Sat outside in glorious sunshine, great food, don’t miss the black pudding starter. Only disadvantage was steep walk back to our Airbnb. Loved it!
