Great little pub, properly known as Rose Cottage, in the oldest building in the village. Good beers well kept, excellent food in generous portions. Dog friendly but NB no children and, being such an old building, no disabled access (steps to premises, steep stairs to loos).

We had a lovely meal for 4, excellent food, beautifully cooked, lovely friendly staff. Extensive menu.Bearing in mind the current nervousness in the whole area at present, we felt safe and comfortable. Face coverings were only required when inside i.e. using the toilets. We were seated outside. We would certainly visit again and recommend others do the same, you won't be disappointed.

Popped in here on a lovely October evening to get away from the chaos of bikers and crowds thronging around the many fish n chip places. So glad we did - nice and quiet, and the food and service was excellent. A great find, and they were happy for our little dog to come in too.

AVOID AVOID AVOID. Landlord extremely rude. My husband needed a wee but he refused him entry stating he didn't like his kind on the premises. When I arrived to question this I was informed.ed it was because he didn't have a mask. We put masks on but he continued to be rude. DO NOT GIVE HIM YOUR MONEY

Just been refused to be served as we didn’t have face masks, note this is August 15th and all restrictions have been eased, we were going to take an empty table outside and everyone else was sitting not wearing masks, we visit Matlock regularly and will take time in the future to remind this establishment that they’ll never receive any money from us ever again - went on to the FISHPOND and had a couple of drinks and something to eat out on their terrace it was great

Refused to serve me even though i was going to sit outside due to me not wearing a face mask, even though i am exempt… this was after the time when wearing a face covering is no longer compulsory, took my money elsewhere

This place never disappoints. The food is spectacular and the service is second to none.

Wouldn't allow us in ... because we had a child with us...!
John keeps a top cellar with amazing guest beers - a top old school landlord ?
Just popped in for a drink. No children at time though.
