Excellent food, very friendly and helpful staff, great atmosphere. The gammon steak was the best I've tasted anywhere.

Enjoyed my meal. Service was really bad. I think the servers needed more training, but also felt like we were being actively ignored at times. Truly bizarre. Cannot stress enough how bad the service was.

My sister and I went to Spice Ship for an early dinner and we absolutely regret it. We walked in to the half-empty restaurant area and told the woman at the podium there were two of us. She rudely replied “two what?”. We said “the two of us are here for dinner.” She left and came back with another rude woman that asked if we had a reservation for their half-empty restaurant. We said no and she said since there were only two of us we could sit at a small table- fine with us.She took us to the table and said someone would be back to take our drink order- no one ever did. We watched three other tables that sat down after us get drinks and even have their food order taken. I wanted a drink so I got up and went to the bar and got our drinks. I got back to the table and my sister said no one had been by- she even tried to wave down one of the women taking orders and said “hi, excuse me”. The woman ignored her and kept walking. We decided to finish our drinks and leave when a woman we had not seen before finally took our dinner order. No one ever took our drink order and when the drinks we got from the bar were empty, no one asked if we wanted another round. I’m fine going to the bar to get drinks but NONE of the tables around us had to do that. The food came out pretty fast- my burger was average and my sisters tikka masala was good. I’m not sure why were ignored but it was extremely disappointing and a terrible way to start our holiday weekend in Dorset.

Always helpful and try and reserve us a table in the bar with our pooch at late notice. Good food, very helpful staff and good atmosphere ?

Can't fault the staff on friendliness or service. Was very good. The food we had was great the first time we went but this weekend just gone it was no where near as good. The chicken tacos had multiple bits of bone in and some of it was very grisly. The chips were sopping in grease. The roast potatoes were frozen ones that were powdery inside. The parsnips were rock solid. May have just been an off day but none of our meals were spot on. Shame as we really like it here and love the atmosphere and the staff

They cannot deal with a large party, we come here last year and had the same problem. Baring in mind, you are in between 2 large haven sites, we want to come out and support local businesses instead of eating on site constantly. The reason of booking was for a birthday meal, mine and one others birthday is on the 19/03. So ventured for a good pub meal. One main problem, we have encountered, on both occasions, the staffs knowledge is very little. We thought to give it another go, as a year had passed. We asked the price of a roast, they didn’t know (they went off the price of the ‘other pub’). We went to the bar to ask what gins they sell, they didn’t know. And then:Allowing a drunk customer at the bar, to tell me, “you should know what you want”. You do not need your customers backing you up, due to lack of knowledge. That is really lame.4/13 people on our table finished their dinner, 4 meals got sent back and refunded due to them literally being inedible or having the incorrect items on the plate. Adults meals came before kids meals, making the children even more agitated. As soon as we complained about our meals, we had a group of staff gathering and gossiping about us. If you’re going to gossip and laugh at customers, don’t do it right in front of them. Especially when, if no meals were refunded, we would have had a bill of over £200 not including drinks.Understanding that, hiring young adults, is cheap for the landlords, it would be good to give them some training as they seem to do doing their job blind. Step one is know your product, you can’t run a business, with staff unaware of what you sell or what comes on your plate.I have a lot of respect for the manager coming over and owning the situation, I didn’t mention the staff knowledge to him as I would not want to knock their confidence, especially in front of other customers. And of course, it’s the managers responsibility to train/retrain staff if they are unsure.Overall, not a good experience, and left hungrier then I arrived on my birthday meal.

Mothers day and staff run ragged all day and even with our booking being the last table of the day we were treated so well by quite a young team a few bits missing as sold out from the main menu but all was explained and apologised for and even though bit of a mess up on the billing with another table all sorted out promptly and more apologising a lovely evening meal for the two mums in our party most enjoyable

Probably the worst Sunday roast we have ever had at a pub/restaurant.Two meats to choose from. The vegetables that weren't luke warm were undercooked. Parsnips were almost raw.CHEAP AND NASTY FROZEN ROAST POTATOES, which were practically inedible.Very, very poor attempt at a Sunday roast!!Have had much better ones in Weymouth.

The Spice Ship has been under new management for nearly a year now. What a difference, the landlord Jensen and his staff have made. It's a proper pub again - popular with locals and tourists a like.Tasty food, very reasonably priced with prompt service - half the price of The Springhead with better food and atmosphere.Highly recommended - thank you Jensen...Parking: 25 parking spaces, with on street parking available (free)Kid-friendliness: Safe play area in an enclosed beer garden
