Novel and effective. REfUSE have shown proof of concept and in so doing are reducing local food waste. As others have said they operate a pay or volunteer system (with a recommended £5 donation per meal) which is fantastically novel and leads to lots of variation in what’s available. The coffee is great and has a standard (but competitive) price.Over the last year I’ve seen the customer base increase steadily and the smoothness of the service improve. Support these guys if you’re in the area.Wheelchair accessibility: Wide doors on entry with staff more than happy to provide assistance. Lots of space between tables for wheelchairs. Unable to comment on the space in the toilets.

For the community, ran by volunteers, serving great food that would otherwise go to waste.

This is a pay as you feel cafe. The menu is defined by what has been donated.

I had a breakfast in there, which was nice. I didn't realise it was a pay what you want establishment. The food was good, but what made it better, was the thought that I was helping to cut down food waste. Many people coming in to pick up supplies. A fantastic idea, well done to the organisers and volunteers ? .

After seeing this cafe on my google search when in Durham, I made my hubby drive us there for my lunch. Unfortunately it was closed due to a catering event. Really disappointed after experiencing a cafe like this in Berwick.

Very relaxed atmosphere, yet busy, the food was excellent. Really nice to have a meat free menu as a special day (Tuesday). Staff and volunteers were excellent

We found this by accident on a wet weekday morning, and we were glad we did. Staff were friendly and helpful, the cakes were delicious and the coffee was better than I've had in any High Street chain. Even better, this is a community resource, using food the supermarkets can't sell to provide meals and snacks at affordable prices. There are testimonials on the walls about how this place has changed lives, but the best recommendation was the smile we got when we walked in.

This place needs your support. A brilliant idea to redistribute surplus food but also support them by popping in for a coffee and breakfast. Run with the support of volunteers and a life line for may that use the help your self free community shop. The waste not box that can be purchased at £15 is well worth it and sometimes have meat hampers at £20 ,both are a total bargain! I love to get a box on a Saturday morning, it's actually quite exciting to get it home and see what's in your mystery box of goodies then plan some recipes! I often spend a few hours on a Sunday afternoon batch cooking from the box ready for the week ahead.
