We booked in for two nights but only stayed the one. The food was fabulous ?, there was an acoustic guitarist and singer on the first night which was nice, staff were nice and friendly, but also very busy. We returned for evening meal the next day cos the food was so good, but then returned home despite it being pre-paid. The reason for this was slamming fire doors, this went on till early hours, after 3 am, and we really didn't get a good night sleep. I'd still recommend this place if you're a good sleeper, I'm not. It's worth going for the food, atmosphere, and entertainment, and I'm sure we will again, but we'll not be booking a room.

Booked a meal at lunchtime Christmas eve at 12.30. Limited menu they said but still plenty of choice. Gyros chicken and chips, Hunter's chicken and gammon with pineapple and eggs were huge! At around £16 each not the cheapest but you can't say you didn't get plenty. Really tasty with great proper chips . Booths at the front by the bar and another restaurant at rear. Parking front and back.

A really nice cosy pub. Stayed over to break a drive. Rooms were big enough, good water pressure, and plenty of hot water. Breakfast was delicious, especially the porridge!Rooms: Not too big, not too small. Clean and cosy with a decent comfortable bed.

Was recommended lunch her by a local car dealership. It was busy. Parking not great. Tight few spaces. Then its on the main road.Almost gave up, but someone left.Nice surroundings. Not many staff.Ordered lunch, which took almost an hour. A mixed grill for my hubby. Which was substantial and tasty.I had a prawn cocktail only as I wasnt that hungry.Sorely dissapointed. A load of dark green lettuce. On a plate with some prawns in sauce thrown at it and 4 triangles of stale brown bread. No cucumber, no tomato.Should have ordered a prawn sanwich. Same things only much cheaper.

I stayed a couple of nights here in November. To start off with, I must say the pub is fab: really warm and with excellent food. The hotel experience sadly isn’t as good. The room I stayed in was a bit tired but I noticed rooms were being refurbished so maybe that’s currently in hand. The worst experience was breakfast where I couldn’t get a proper coffee because there weren’t enough people staying in the hotel to justify turning on the coffee machine. To be honest the staff working in the morning were quite unfriendlyAnyway, a great pub and an ok budget hotel, but a bit of service and a smile in the morning would make such a difference

Room a bit cramped for the price for 1 night,, decorating could do with touch

Greeted with a warm welcome. Went to our room which was clean and well presented. Then the only downside to our stay. The bed was creaky, but comfortable. We booked a table for our evening meal and we were very impressed by the food. This was backed up by the breakfast in the morning. Ful English with cereals, porridge, fruit & yoghurt. Good selection of beer which was also well kept. A very good location for commuting into Newcastle or Durham.

Great food and service from this inn. Great atmosphere. Huge portion and quality food. Had Sunday lunch, wasn't sure if the veggies would be overcooked (often the case when buying Sunday lunch out), but they were perfect.

Easy check in. Staff very friendly & courteous. We were looking forward to staying in the "beautifully refurbished boutique rooms", sadly they didn't match our expectations. Firstly, the hall & stairway to the rooms could have done with a thorough clean to get rid of cobwebs that greeted us and the stairs didnt look like they had been hovered in a while. We were in the family room and the bed was extremely lumpy and uncomfortable. The floors were so noisy I was nervous about waking others up when I got up in the night. The dressing table was in a really dark corner with no light so unusable for getting yourself ready. The bathroom tiles looked like they had been put on when the wall was plastered as the grout appeared to be plaster, it all looked a mess, especially as a few of them were loose. The sofa bed cushions were stained. Plenty of sockets but no USB points. No bluetooth speaker docking station as advertised. Food and service was very good, big portions. Tables were very sticky though. Location for going to Beamish is great as it's only 4 miles.
