We couldn't decide where to have Sunday lunch in the Marina and in the end opted for Chez Mal and we loved it.The roast beef was just perfect, the atmosphere was friendly and relaxing, the service was superb.Couldn't have asked for more from a dining out experience.

Went to Chez Mal brasserie at Brighton Marina's Mal Maison hotel for dinner last night. The menu was good, with a fair selection of choices. Some great cocktails. Our wine wasn't chilled, but the waiter soon replaced this with a suitably cold bottle. Food was generally good all round. My ribs could have done with being a bit hotter, but they were very tasty. Desserts were all nice. Presentation & service was good. Busy with a lively atmosphere. Will definitely go back.

not a big menu - which we prefer as more likely to be freshly cooked. Decent wines, well prepared food, delicious. service a bit hit and miss at times though.

We held our office Christmas party at Malmaison. We were a large group of people, it always gets a bit rowdy but the function room is perfectly contained and the food was good quality and the evening went very smoothly overall. They have an easy online booking service to pre-order meals, it had a couple of glitches but nothing major. The Events team were a pleasure to deal with and I would definitely recommend for functions.

We decided to try Chez Mal instead of our usual pub Sunday lunch and we’re glad we did. The service was incredibly slow as the staff seemed busy throughout a large serving area. However, they were all lovely, friendly and helpful. We loved the vast buffet of appetisers, which included hot soup as well as a decent selection of salads, cold meats and cheeses (including my favourite charcoal biscuits). We chose the veggie roast which was a roasted butternut squash, which was tasty although we did not think this offered the same value as the meat dishes. The only disappointment were the roast potatoes, which were crunchy and hard rather than crisp and fluffy. This two-course meal was £20, desserts were an extra £3.50 and wines were reasonably priced. (There’s a bottomless Prosecco deal for an extra £15). This was not a cheap lunch option but for just over £30 each we enjoyed a relaxing 2 and a half hours, in a comfortable spacious environment, marred only by a crying toddler.

Tasty food in pleasant surroundings served by Zoe (fabulous, fun and friendly) and her lovely colleague (Edward?). New Chef Christina has certainly improved things again. Not a huge menu choice, but tasted good and well-presented.

The roast beef dinner was outstanding and the quality of the food good. The servicewas good and our waitress Zoe keen and welcoming. It was enjoyable having comfortable surroundings and a good view of the marina. I will recommend Chez Mal to friends and will return soon again.

OMG this was on of the longest wait I had to ever experience. There were only two tables with customers (including us), and everything just took so long. 20 minutes to take the order, 40 to 60 minutes to wait for food, another 30 minutes to pay after getting the bill. Understandable if the place is full, but it was completely empty. Food was average, not mind blowing. The place is also really far from city centre I’m sorry to say this if your place is empty and not working do some advertising, make some special deals that some can say wow or relocate ?

Food lovely, service was a little off. It was like they did not have people in for lunch very often.

One of the worst dining experiences I have ever had.The service was unbelievably poor… they were late and blasé showing us to our table, then they proceeded to leave us for a whole 45 minutes before offering us any drinks (even water!!). When we finally did manage to flag someone down and order some cocktails, they took over 30 minutes to arrive as well! Please note that the restaurant and bar did not appear to be busy at all and it was a fairly quiet night.Food was also slow to come out and not tasty or worth the money - calamari was bland and tasteless, prawn cocktail had no sauce or seasoning (just plain cold prawns), burgers were so rare that one of my dining companions was put off eating it and left a mostly full plate. The mac n cheese tasted like bland cabbages and was very unappealing. Creme brûlées were burnt. After receiving the bill we were then left waiting for someone to come back for the payment for a further 30 minutes or so until we gave up and left the table to search for a member of staff. No staff were anywhere to be found so we had to stand in the entrance until someone finally appeared. We voiced our concerns, complained about our dining experience and expressed that we at least wanted the first round of drinks and service charge removed from the bill, the staff member (who we believe to be the manager) simply said “ok” and did not offer any type of apology or show the slightest hint of concern or interest.I honestly feel that we shouldn’t have paid anything for our meal, received compensation and, at the absolute minimum, an apology!Safe to say, none of us will be returning to dine here again.

New place for us to hang out in summer. We love it.

Excellent location overlooking Brighton Marina and with service to match. The food was good, however, the menu choices were rather limited to say the least. Our table service was provided by Georgios who was very friendly and to a degree made up for what was lacking with this Restuarant's menu.If the Menu improves, we will definitely be returning and perhaps here they should look at the Chez Mal menu on the group's website where they offer 6 choices from the Meat & Grill section (which is seperate from the Main choice section). All in all, a very nice atmosphere and evening, with very attentive waiter/waitress service.

As many others trip advisors we decided to try this restaurant due to the rave reviews & being no1!, so booked well in advance and packed kids off to friends for the night. Yes, the decor and ambiance is well pitched, a little bohemian, which Brighton is, and of course Giorgio front of house, very welcoming. However I would of liked to have been offered an aperitif (had been looking forward to a prosecco),to peruse my menu over and to try the lovely fresh, but slightly undersized 'amuse bouche', especially as we were assured we had the table for the night to ourselves so no rush. The paper napkin was a shame as the rest of the table oozed decadence, with silver candelabra and menu holder. We tried both starters, rice balls, and stuffed aubergine, but was sort of thing I'd make at home for friends, Main course lacked enough seasoning, but Giorgio did supply condiments without us having to embarrassingly ask. The lasagna traditional was tasty, but not out of this world, the braciole, seemed overwhelmed with bread and very little meat, also would have like to have seen another vegetable to accompany, we were served a few saute peppers. Finally the tiramisu dessert lacked a punch (think the booze had been omitted). It was nice home cooked food, which can only assume was cooked by a home cook and not a trained chef. The ingredients seemed bulked out with cheaper stuff, which I can guess would be the way they do it in Sicily old times, but restaurants claiming excellence need to step up the good stuff. Left here feeling like I could eat more. If I were to go to the same price, area, restaurant again for a special occasion I would go to Fig tree in Hurstpierpoint which really did have me talking about it for days. would keep this place for another day..
