Very good quality food but the main dishes have the size of starters so ends up being totally overpriced. We ended up having to buy a sandwich and fries as we were still very hungry when we left. The portion of cod they put in your plate is about the third of what you get in a pub for the same price.

This restaurant is superb. We ate at the bar, food was quickly supplied but the quality was out of this world. One of the nicest things we had was confit of potatoes. That was amazing. This is small plate modern Spanish tapas. Service was impeccable. Its a real treat.

My girlfriend and I were visiting Brighton for two days (29-30th) before heading into London for NYE on the 31st. We'd booked an AirBnB and the trip was meant to be a nice final relaxing getaway before starting 2024. We hadn't researched The Flint House, we just stumbled across it. I must admit, upon entering the staff were very accommodating, especially seeming we didn't have a reservation. We chose a nice bottle of wine and then decided to go with the taster menu (10 dishes). The food was fine, I wouldn't say great but it was enjoyable enough. The main came which was the chicken leg - I ate mine before my partner showed me that hers was pink, slimy and raw. We raised this with the waiter whose response was 'It can't be raw we sous vide our chicken so it's cooked to temperature'. She came back a few minutes later and said she took the value of the dish off our bill - the gesture was kindly received - little did I know it was sadly too late for me. Fast forward to 3am the morning of the 30th and I'm projectile vomiting. As this is a public forum, I'll avoid the crude details. In sum, I was sick 11 times over the course of the day, battling dehydration and stomach cramps - not quite the day we had planned as I couldn't leave the flat, and we missed our pre-booked tickets to the aquarium. Having read a few other reviews also highlighting similar food safety issues, I researched what is required to lodge a complaint with Brighton Food Safety. Turns out it's a faecal sample to confirm the bacteria - naturally, I was in no place to see a GP, let alone mine isn't based in Brighton. Overall, it's disappointing as it seems there's little us as patrons can do to receive compensation (my £140 down the drain). I am 100% certain it was the chicken that caused my sickness as due to us travelling to Brighton, all I'd eaten prior was a handful of Pringles - and we didn't eat anything after the meal. I only snapped a photo of the first course, but attached that as proof of our meal on-site on the 29th (around 4.20pm) In the interest of a fair review - if the chicken hadn't been raw, and I hadn't got such awful food poisoning that single handily ruined my NY, I'd have rated the experience about a 6/10. As I mentioned above, the food was fine and the service was pleasant.

First visit and we were not disappointed! Very welcoming staff, we had a lovely table by the window upstairs. Good selection of small plates and we opted for the chefs menu (although we didn't have the wine pairings). Bream ceviche, sweetcorn fritters and ham and gruyere croquettes were delicious. Lemongrass and garlic chicken and confit potatoes were also delicious. Ambience was nice without too much loud music, but it did get crowded so the noise level was raised. Quite pricey but worth it.

The restaurant is very comfortable and inviting. Super central. You can bring your dog if you seat upstairs which is an absolute treat! (as comfortable or even more than downstairs). The staff is super friendly and helpful and they will do their best to make sure you are well taken care of. A special thanks to Leandro, the General Manager, who has been treating us so well! The food is super tasty and great to share. From starters to meat/fish/veggie & beautiful dessert options, there are a lot of options, all done perfectly thinking about details. Big wine list with an amazing vinho verde! We do recommend 100%!

Flint house has been amazing every time I have visited, from the moment you step through the door to the moment you leave. The service is attentive they always greet you at the door even when they are busy serving. The attentive service continues throughout the meal with refilling wine glasses, water and replenishing water bottles when needed etc.. The atmosphere is friendly and relaxed but not overly noisy which is nice, if you get the chance to sit upstairs it is lovely and a cosy experience with a lovely view over the lanes. The food is always amazing and a few of the favourites today were the ceviche of bream, tempura mushrooms and the crème brûlée doughnut! That was truly a match made in heaven that I really hope is there next time. We all had a fabulous lunch and will definitely be back.

Terrible food: Went to the flint house on the 28th December for a birthday meal. Arrived on time and seated. The waitering staff were good. Ordered food, which took quite some time To arrive. Had a Starter of shiitake mushrooms and sweetcorn croquettes. Very small portions. Next was the main, which was mackerel and roivioli, was raw, tasteless, and poor. Reported to the waitress who was great and removed from the bill. My parter and I have never complained about a meal previously after also working In the service industry, but today we agreed 10 mins after leaving the restaurant that it was one of worst meals we have ever had paying for food and especially on a birthday occasion. The less I say now, the better, but I can feel the stomach aches kicking in.

We’ve eaten at Flint house so many times. We’ve found for us it has slowly deteriorated and therefore our visits have become less frequent. Having been in town and found our designated place to eat closed we headed for the flint house as it was near and we were hungry. We had the sweetcorn fritters, not sure why, they were my wife’s choice, never particularly liked them before and still not a fan. They are always too greasy for my liking. The snitzel was chewy, I thought the coating could have been jazzed up a bit but it was standard and boring. The cod was cooked immaculately but the Thai broth was tasteless and we didn’t like the texture of the noodles as it felt like fish bone. Our pave potato tasted old, and 1 was way undercooked, I was surprised to see that on the bill as we did mention it to the server. The satay sauce on the squash was great and probably the best thing from all the plates we ate. The food today was sadly underwhelming, tasteless and really not at all the quality one would expect especially as it’s not cheap and has the reputation it has. Thought the chefs could have had a little wipe down too as all their stations were untidy and disorganised

Visited the flint house twice in the last month for lunch. Such a lovely relaxed experience Waiting staff always really friendly and you never feel rushed Food is so tasty - amazing sweetcorn fritters are crisp and delicious. Roast cauliflower was perfectly cooked. Chicken super tender And simply the best Espresso Martini in Brighton

Always previously enjoyed Flint House and had great experiences. Two of our table of three developed diarrohea and vomitting 24 hours after the meal which was a celebratory birthday dinner. The two affected in our group of three weren't able to provide positive tests from the doctor that confirmed the cause because they didn't feel able to go to the doctor when feeling that unwell. The restaurant owner required this as proof which we couldn't provide. Difficult because many of these tests can come up as false negatives. We were offered a bottle of wine in compensation which didn't meet our expectations instead we were looking for some degree of refund or some reasnoble effort as a courteosy. The owner did respond promptly which I am grateful for but I will be honest it was an unpleasant consumer experience from the communication that I received from them in the aftermath.

We had a lot of fun at this lovely restaurant. We sat at the bar and watched the food being made. The staff were very knowledgeable and recommended great wine accompaniments. Best dish was the raw tuna but I also loved the heritage tomato salad.

The staff is highly professional and nice. Set in a great place, but decor is unremarkable. Food has its moments, both positive and not so positive... I felt it is quite overpriced.

We found the food here of very good quality, although they call it small plates it’s really just the standard, Starter, Main & Dessert, this just seems to be the new thing at restaurants, perhaps to make you spend a little more on an extra dish, that you probably wouldn’t normally have.Although the staff were all very pleasant the service was shockingly slow, not just for us looking around this was the same for everyone and something that does need to be improved upon.
