SIMPLY ENGLISH EDINBURGH

Had such a lovely lunch here with my mother in law, sister in law and daughter over the festive period. My daughter was given a wee doodle board to keep her entertained and we were given a table making sure we were comfortable and had space behind us to store her buggy so that was really appreciated. Great food and lovely staff so we will definitely be back!

Seriously impressed with the mezze options at a very low price. Recommended.

Delicious food with great service from the staff. The Good Burger with the fries 10/10 The Oreo Cake 10/10. Will certainly be going back to try out more of their dishes!!

The menu is heavily vegetarian focused, halloumi all over the place, so vegan options feel a bit like an afterthought. In 2023 there are many better options for vegans where you don't have to feel like you're trying to dodge cheese and egg in your restaurant of choice.

In response to your reply. Firstly we had to chase for the food. Secondly the plates did not come back clean for the two plates with pancakes. That is an utter lie. Both had pancakes left on the plates. Thirdly the pancakes were not fresh and I have eaten these before in your restaurant so no what they are supposed to taste like.I would not call this good service!I have been going to this restaurant regularly when we visit my daughter and food has been great. Unfortunately, when we went on Saturday and ordered pancakes they were awful; not fresh, crispy on the edges, dry and rubbery. It was made worse as they were also cold. We felt quite sick after eating these and when I asked mine to be warmed up they came back with butter (not vegan) on top.In the end we just left the pancakes and will be trying other restaurants on our next visit. The restaurant was quite empty as it was early and I could see the chef's standing about on their phones. Our order took over 30 minutes to arrive which I had to ask where our order was. Not certain if you have changed your chefs but the food was poor, service extremely slow.

The food was fantastic at this chilled vegetarian/vegan cafe. We had the veggie breakfast and bap, the tempeh in the bap was delicious. Big portion size. Friendly staff. Coffee also very good.

We both had the special of bang bang rice salad which was incredible ! So tasty and a generous portion. One of the nicest veggie foods we have eaten. YUM ! ?

Have been going to this cafe for years ever since I was a child. Hadn’t been in a couple years so I thought I’d go again. Food was amazing but service was absolutely shocking. Girl with the claw clip in her hair was so rude, got my order wrong and made me feel bad for it. Didn’t even smile and barely even spoke. Couldn’t believe we had to pay a service charge, just awful. Such a shame because the food was lovely but we felt like an inconvenience. Because of this I won’t be coming back

Myself and family popped in here for a snack of some tea/coffee and maybe some cake. It was Saturday afternoon and The Lanes was busy with shoppers. Yet this place was quiet. But in complete contrast to the other reviews, my experience here was awful. Service? The two staff seemed to be more preoccupied in talking to the bloke behind the counter rather than serving us. When they did, they got the cake order wrong and forgot about half of our order. We ordered two pieces of cake neither of which were moist or fresh. When I paid the bill, I was asked to pay with my card a total. Having paid I received a bill which had a service charge of 10%. For what? For abysmal service? My opinion of this place is to avoid and carry o as there are much better places nearby which are more welcoming.

Fantastic menu with a great range of options. Love this relaxed cafe in the heart of the lanes and try to visit every time we get to Brighton.

Needs more spices! Also, I didn't appreciate watching one of the cooking staff handling boxes for what looked like recycling, scratching her nose, using her phone, another nose scratch and then going directly back to salad prep.

This was a great experience and a great example of delicious vegetarian food. The meals were of good quality and the staff were friendly and attentive. I would absolutely come back here.
