A superb steak from the in-house butchers with chips, washed down with a pint of Harvey’s, can’t go wrong! Highly recommended.

Such a lovely place with a beautiful garden area. Friendly Staff but beware...no food served on Tuesday!

I was a bit confused by this one when I walked in because the bar area seemed a bit inconsequential to the rest of the indoor space, and it had more of the feeling of a café / restaurant with a butchers shop bolted onto it rather than a pub. So I wasn’t actually surprised to read on Whatpub that it reopened in 2022 after the pandemic as a Café Bar as the décor is certainly fitting with that description. The area in front of the small bar does have a couple of comfortable settees to lounge in but the rest of the space to the left and right of the bar are set to tables for eating and certainly feels more café than pub. The drinks choices are limited and there is a solitary ale hand pump with the ubiquitous Harvey’s Sussex Best. We visited here for lunch after walking the nature reserve from Rye Harbour and for that purpose it was a good experience. Wanting to avoid fried food we went for the lamb chops and the butternut squash curry and they were both very good. Unfortunately I couldn’t say the same about the beer and let’s just say I have had better pints of Sussex Best. We sat inside in the dining section but the Ship Inn does benefit from a fantastic outside landscaped garden at the back. Its hard to describe but it more resembles well planted sand dunes, and you follow a path that winds its way through lush tall planting discovering individual sections with their own tables and chairs basically separated from all the other sections. So, it’s like having your own private garden space to drink and eat in. Dogs are welcome in this section, but they just have to be kept on a lead. That is perfectly sensible because if you let them off and they run off you are never going to find the thing and other diners are not going to appreciate you disturbing their individual space whilst you hunt for your mutt. This place is obviously set up to service people from the nearby Winchelsea Sands Holiday Park or people who are walking the excellent Rye Harbour nature reserve. If you are looking to eat, then I would recommend this one over the Pub 31 down the road. If you are only after a beer then I would possibly say stick with Pub31, unless you have a fine weather day, when I would think you might like to experience the garden here.

Absolutely divine food, excellent service and I love the decor and beautiful gardens. I Absolutely love this restaurant consistently perfect. Great staff professional and friendly. The butchers of course so famous is amazing with delicatessen serving local cheeses and special tasty treats.

My friend, Aurelia suggested this local restaurant for lunch near her Winchelsea Beach home. A delicious lunch in a garden where the outdoor seating is surrounded by wildflowers and palm and olive trees. The inside decor was very beachy and colorful. We had the fish and chips and shrimp scampi appetizer which was very tasty and fresh. The sliders were perfectly made, cappuccinos piping hot. Service was wonderful. Shout out to Nat. Thank you for a wonderful lunch

Curry and fish and chips. Solid local pub with good beer choices and an excellent kitchen. All local ingredients and farm shop / butcher attached is superb. They will heat a pie for you if you buy from the shop. The modern interior is bright and the gardens are really nice - back off the road and lots of tables. Good people, great food and a brilliant shop.

We come here often as regular visitors to Winchelsea beach. The staff are always so lovely and food always superb. Such great quality meat and big portions too! Our kids love it here also, both inside and the lovely garden outside. Highly recommend.

After a few drinks in their beautiful garden we looked around the farm shop, we bought some steak from the butchers which I can tell you was amazing, we cooked it up with some scallops I bought down the road and had a very satisfying dinner that night, staff friendly.

will never go again, food terrible. 2 of us ended up with bad stomachs. could be such a great place if properly run and some love put in to what they do. I only give it one star because I can't give no stars and having complained they couldn't be bothered to get back to me! says it all!

Beautiful place with amazing Garden. Unfortunately the older lady who is serving there treated us very awful. I understand they are serving food from 12 but when we said we will then have just a drink, she send us to cafe next door with unpleasent attitude. Also I don’t understand how you can close restaurant at 4pm on Saturday during bank holiday weekend. It is shame they have service like that in such a lovely place.
