Delicious menu, our party of 6 all had excellent meals. Good service if a little slow but didn't look to be many staff on. Will definitely be back

Had dinner last night salmon fillet and was lovely. Beautifully seasoned my brother had pan fried skate and couldn't fault it. Extremely good value for a good class meal.

Birthday treat for me with my husband, daughter and son in law. Ordered Caesar Salad with chicken - when it came up it arrived with a bowl of mozzarella cheese - the waitress glibly said they had no parmesan, so served mozzarella instead (!). My son in law is a chef and expects a certain standard - if the waitress had mentioned there was no parmesan, he would have chosen a different meal. Prawn ciabatta was acceptable as was the halloumi and chips. Chicken skewer starter was tasteless and chewy. Mentioned the parmesan to the manager - no interest shown. This used to be a good lunch venue - we won’t be going back.

Well went yesterday had ciabatta was just ok , the sweet potato chips were a big disappointment very soggy , should have been crispy , staff seemed non plussed , just ok I’d say , shame

Really disappointed with this place, heard great things and food looks nice on social media but our family experience was poor. Sat outside the tables were old and broken, there was glasses everywhere and old food packets that hadn’t been cleared away. Had to go in to order and pay. Food was really cold and like it had been sitting under a hot plate for ages as it was dry by the time it got to us. Cream on the desert was off so we didn’t eat this. In the end we just left .

After a period of striking the Axe off our visit list, we returned after trying a new place that didn’t do hot lunch meals during the week! It’s now back on our avoid list. Starter was OK, but we were expecting to be able to share the “large” falafels - all 4 tiny balls of falafel. The chicken supreme was dry, the mash was dry and when more sauce was requested, the pommodoro was weird and left a strange after taste. The sea bass fillet was half a sea bass fillet (who had the rest of my fish?) and was drenched in leaves - oh and a smidgen of chorizo. £16.00 for half a meal was definitely poor value for money. Not nice.

So nice to have a local again, the food and service has improved since the manager spen has been here. He is one of the main reasons we are back. Such a lovely atmosphere, so warm and welcoming everytime. Highly recommend a visit!

Whenever I am in the area this is “our place” to visit because we are guaranteed good food and a smiling face. The two for one burgers on a Tuesday are our particular favorite. One of us is a vegan and there is more than one choice which is unusual for a pub. Spen the Manager is always pleased to see us!

After a period of striking the Axe off our visit list, we reluctantly returned after being unable to get a meal elsewhere. The Axe is now back on our avoid list. Not nice. To be fair, the staff and service were OK.
