After cycling 20 miles to Wivenhoe from home I was in need of refreshments. Had chicken, bacon and avocado sandwich with crisps and salad. Good value as the sandwich was well filled. Lovely interior and they have a garden out back too. Definitely recommend this place.

We had meals here on two consecutive nights. It had been recommended by our Air bnb hosts. It is a rustic pub that is community run. Parking could be a problem as there are yellow lines and narrow roads everywhere, but there is a small car park on the approach that allows 3 hours free and all night after 6pm. Once again The Black Buoy delivers!! Fantabulous food, and the drink is top notch. Currently consuming Colchester Brewery "Brazilian" which is a chocolate coffee porter that is pure velvet. Beer festival on this weekend too, great selection of all styles of beer, and it's been very popular. Great destination, great staff, comfortable and cosy surroundings so there's no excuse not to come back!!
