I don’t live in a place that has African restaurants, so when I come to a big city, I always look forward to finding one. This place did not disappoint. I had egusi with fried fish and semolina. The flavor was out of this world. The serving of semolina was definitely enough to get me through the stew. The fish was very fresh and the meat fluffy. I enjoyed my meal so much. The server was friendly and helpful for me deciding. I would say it’s on the pricey side, so be prepared for that, but for the portion, taste, and atmosphere, I’d say it’s worth it!

805 is part of a chain and you expect a similar standard of food, pricing and service (+ or -) based on location. Imagine my surprise when presented with a £30 compulsory service charge which I was latterly advised had been advised on the menu. I look at menus to decide what to eat, not your policy on service charge. Other 805s do not have a practice of service charge. Service charge should be discretionary and not COMPULSORY. This is theft by any other name. The stockfish in the bitterleaf soup was cold as if it had been removed from the fridge and microwaved. We were charged for food that had been sent back uneaten. The waitress was argumentative and surly. All together an awful ? experience.

HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. As someone who has worked as a waitress and in the hospitality industry for years this place’s service, management and operations are disgusting. My friend booked for her birthday weeks in advance for 8:30pm on the 4th October, a table for 14, we showed up perfectly on time and some of us earlier. They rudely told us to get out because there was a group of uncles (whose reservation was at 6pm!?) on our table and told us to wait until 9pm. Mind you we all clearly saw their mains just being served at that moment. We ended up leaving because a place with service so inconsiderate and horridly poor does not deserve our custom.

Unfortunately had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. My friend made a reservation for 14 people over a week ago for her birthday at 8:30pm. She was then called a few days in advance of our booking to ask her to push her reservation to 9pm. She told them that this was not possible and the booking was confirmed once again for 8:30pm. She was then called twice on the day of the booking to further confirm that we would be arriving at 8:30pm. When we arrive, we are told that the 6pm reservation (who had booked after us and were the reason we were asked to push our booking) had arrived late and had not yet left. Another customer informed us that this group had only recently arrived and some had not even received their food so we were unlikely to be seated. The staff rudely asked us to wait outside in the cold when we arrived and then asked us to return in half an hour when the group on our table might be finished (this did not appear like it would be the case). I don’t think the management at this restaurant have correctly understood the point of a booking system. If someone arrives late for their reservation, they should be the ones that are turned away rather than the group who arrive on time for their later booking. I think if this is too hard for them to control then they should only take walk-ins. Really ridiculous service, no management to be spoken to, treated as if we were in the wrong for arriving for our booking on time, asked to return in half an hour with no guarantee that we would be seated when we had a reservation. No offer of any compromise or compensation. Will definitely not be returning which is a shame as had heard good things about the food.
