I want to start by saying the Reuben sarnies we ordered were actually delicious, but when we asked for sauce, we were asked what we want… reasonably fair question, but their only options were brown sauce and ketchup! My brother, I want mustard with my Reuben ??? Mental question for such a lack of range I thought tbh !!!!! Anyway I digress, the toastie was delightful.Upon arrival though we ordered the toasties, a couple coffees and even a goddam lammington (first time?), but we also bought a dog biscuit for the dog we had with us…….. only to be told after sitting down that no dogs are allowed ??? ok bro I’ll go sit in the cold that I came into escapeFood nice but entirely mid experience, double espresso was goddam tiny

Best bakery in Herne Hill.

The lamingtons are the best thing I have ever eaten. I’m not even exaggerating. I have never eaten a cake so wonderful. The bread is lovely too but those lamingtons deserve an award.

I go to the Black Bird Bakery in Herne Hill most days. I go because they do the BEST coffee in Herne Hill - this remains true even in the post G@il’s era.Even though the coffe is great, it’s genuinely outshone by THE BEST TEAM. They are all so friendly, warm and personable. They care about their customer. I am not great in the morning frankly, but I genuinely look forward to seeing these guys!Thank you!

It’s nice that it’s an independent business, but the quality of the food isn’t great, often stale and so expensive, and the service is rubbish. No wonder people are flocking to Gail’s for actually nice

The food is great, but the toasties are all of a sudden half the size they used to be, for the same price. And this has nothing to do with ‘which part of the load you get’, as we have been a few times. It’s a shame because with Gales and others competitors next door, we might try else where in future.

Very tasty sandwiches I always grab em, but service you provide is a super hit and miss, some of staff is amazing, but most of them are super rude and slow! You’re loosing your customers to Sesami or Gillies now so work on it. Nobody wants to order anything from miserable and rude people

Overpriced with a sprinkling of awful service ??Over £28 to sit in for breakfast and a coffee is already a questionable start. Follow this up with the wrong pastries being brought over by an incompetent and frankly rude waitress, continued the onslaught. The coffee then arrive and, again, was incorrect. Giving a latte to a dairy intolerant customer is always the best way to go! To top it all off, when asking for the Wi-Fi password, we were met with a glare from the waitress before she pointed at the sign on the wall and sighed. The only glimmer of hope in a sea of disappointment, were the sourdough bread toasties. Wouldn’t recommend, but if you have to, take the toasties to go!

Used to liked this place a lot but they now charge almost a pound extra just to heat up your pastry. Ridiculous

Plenty of seats. Good service, except for no teaspoons for drinks. Good coffee.

I absolutely loved getting some fresh food to go at this cafe. Incredibly delicious and staff went above and beyond in every way. They make a world a better place and I always leave with a big smile. Thank you !

They need to change the menu as it hasn't changed for bloody years! Decent coffeé and teas. I'd put them at number teo or number three for coffeé and teas.
