Along with a great and traditional restaurant there’s one of the most cozy bars in London. Just follow the stairs…. In this place I learned to drink proper whisky with no ice cubes.

Really a very very old England place where you go first to enjoy past Times atmosphères . A large choice of cocktails at the cocktail bar where we were (a greenhouse surrounded by plants). As regards restaurant, cannot really opine since we could not get e table (you have to réserve well in avance). However, the cold snacks proposed were quite good in my opinion. Globally a very good moment in the oldest restaurant in London which remains up to its ambition.

beautiful deco, food and service, just the Aunt Nellie's tipple cocktail tasted too strong and the coffee didn't taste great.

Excellent, food was excellent, wine is expensive, staff and service are superb. Atmosphere is sumptuous and the history of the restaurant is worth the price alone.

I went here with my brother last week. I’ve never been but my brother has been here about a dozen times (but not in the last 15 years). We had read that the food was not as good these days, but my brother thought it was as good as he remembered it.He said that it's famous for the steak and kidney pudding, but said the pie is the one to go for. Well, it was easily the best pie I’ve ever had, period. It was indescribably good – tender, juicy, perfect pastry. And a jug of gravy and perfect crunchy fat chips.I’ve thought longingly about that pie several times a day since I went, and I’ll be back at Rules the next time I’m in London.

This is the oldest restaurant in London. It was a very nice place to take the family for Sunday dinner. We had the Roast Rib of Beef for two along with some Potatoes and Yorkshire Pudding. The steak was really nicely cooked and tasked OK. There really was not a lot of meat for what this meal cost. Remember the plate you see in the photo is for two people. The potatoes didn’t have much flavor and I wished I would have ordered the mashed instead. This was my first-time eating Yorkshire Pudding, and I didn’t care for it. My wife said that it was too burnt on the bottom for her liking.Overall, the atmosphere in this place was great, but I’m not sure it was worth the money. One thing that was superb was the service, they really know how to serve guests.

Always love to visit The Rules when in London! The oldest restaurant of the city with a long history, traditional food, great taste and an amazing ambience. A must visit :)Update: We have been there last weekend and unfortunately the food was like the last years. Don’t know why. But anyway a great location!

As the oldest restaurant in London they have had plenty of time to hone their craft. And hone they have! Save your pennies and treat yourself at least once to lunch or dinner here. The service is fantastic and the food is delicious. Don't miss out on their cocktails either! And if you are visiting for a special occasion, make sure to let them know so they can fuss over you a bit more!

This is my second visit to Rules and I honestly cannot fault it .My first was to the upstairs bar which is one of those wonderful hidden gems in London. I enjoyed the great atmosphere of the conservatory area and one of the house cocktails. My second was for a meal with family and again it was amazing. We all had a different item on the menu and every single one was perfect. I can highly recommend the steak and kidney pie which was filled to the brim with tender flavourful meat. The atmosphere of the dining area is also great with a multitude of artwork and paraphernalia. The service from the staff on both visits was impeccable and everyone was welcoming and friendly.Rules is the oldest restaurant in London and it is clear to see how it has lasted so long. Will definitely return for another visit and can't recommend highly enough.

Really really special British restaurant specializes in game dishes. It's my first time trying rabbit and grouse, absolutely loved them. Such classy deco as well. Definitely recommend a visit.

Ask for Sophie, she is the hostess with the mostest!I had the chicken, leek, and mushroom pie, outstanding! The only thing better was Mike's lamb. YUM! We had been looking forward to this for 4 months and it did not disappoint in the least. Sophie's wine recommendation was fantastic.

For those complaining about dress code - if you can’t manage to wear a dress or slacks with a nice collared shirt and complain that it’s somehow a fault of the restaurant or not communicated clearly perhaps you might want to take a look at the website where it is very clearly stated -“Rules is delighted to welcome Families during the day, however, Children under ten years of age will no longer be allowed in the Restaurant after 7.00pm. Our dress Code is Smart casual. Please no shorts or Sportswear”See link here https://rules.co.uk/restaurant/If smart casual dress is too much of a ‘hassle’ just get yourselves to a McDonald’s or Nandos where dress doesn’t matter. But if your looking for a classic elegant dining and classic British TableService go to Rules where dining is an elevated experience. For 200 years this formidable and loved institution has been serving up a menu of traditional English cuisine with classic English Service. Part of fun of partaking in that experience is that you dress appropriately for your meal. The food was excellent, the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. My husband and I had a wonderful first meal in London. Worth every penny!
