Went to Toff's following a raving review in Time Out magazine. Thought, as I have a friend who lives near there, I'll pick up my Brixton anchor and sail north of the river to treat us both to my favourite culinary Britainalia.Yes, the service was friendly and efficient. The fish was fresh, flakey and juicy. But that was it. The rest of what makes a f&ch the complete meal was, from not really special, to very dissappinting.Chips was a good few moments short of that desirable ballance of outside crispiness and inside softness, while batter was soked in oil, making shoveling the meal down the gullet quite heavy going. It is an absolute shame as it was obvious that all the ingridients were there, including a delicatelly thin batter coating, but sloppy executon had ruined the opportunity.
