Thank you all for making the Shakespeare an amazing pub. I say it at the bar but it’s truly appreciated!

Popped in with the family today, first time here. Great atmosphere, the rugby wasn't on the TV but they popped it on for us. Kid friendly pub too, great service and nice selection of beers.

Classic stokey boozer, always a good option. Good selection on tap and friendly service. Very casual place, unpretentious with a local crowd and an easy atmosphere. It was a hot day and the air conditioner made the inside nice and cool - so that's a bonus if you like that sort of thing.

Quite simply a great local pub. Nice inside, nice seats outside, friendly staff.

I've not been to this famous Hackney pub for a good few years. I popped in on a Saturday afternoon, very nice atmosphere, great selection of beer, and they sell twiglets?? However, they are guilty of two heinous crimes:1. You can only pay by card (personally I don't think this should be legal), cash has been fine for millennia, who do you think you are.2. I was going to sit at a table but the whole row was reserved. Allowing reservations in pubs goes against all pub traditions, especially now so many people abuse the system. In the Czech Republic many places reserve a table for locals, which is a fine tradition, but allowing someone who may or may not turn up to reserve a table is crazy, and is destroying so many pubs. If you want to run a restaurant, buy a restaurant and leave our pubs alone. If these issues were corrected, it would be a 5 star pub all day long.

? Dalston Kingsland? £5.50 Guinness❤️ The quintessential local pub..Nestled in quiet residential backstreet in the heart of Stoke Newington you’ll find The Shakespeare pub. The nearest station is Dalston Kingsland which is just over a ten minute walk to get here..The Shakespeare Tavern as it was then called was built by Whitbread in 1866. Today it is run by one of the best pubco’s in London, Remarkable Pubs..This once two bar pub has an elongated Island servery which has some superb colourful retro posters behind the optics. One of my favourite features of this pub are the two etched glass parches complete with mosaic tiled floors with the pubs name on. Around the walls are an eclectic assortment of artworks and mirrors which make for a talking point to a first time visitor. At the rear of the pub is a cosy heated beer garden, there is also additional seating at the front to watch the world go by..The beer line up was excellent, there is a good mix of homegrown beers, European classics plus a couple of cask ales. As it was St Patricks Day, I decided to round the day off with a Guinness. My pint was superb and was very well kept, price point was good at £5.50. If you’re hungry, there is a burger menu available with vegetarian and vegan options too. A hamburger and a side will set you back a tenner..We arrived just after 6pm, the pub was packed and had a nice upbeat buzz. The crowd was a mix of Stokey Hipsters, older indigenous locals and a few parents with younger children. I’m not a fan of children in pubs, for me it’s for adults only. The service was quick, attentive and done so with a smile. This pub does have a lovely local pub feel to it, one of best I’ve experienced in ages..The Shakespeare was a fantastic visit and we all really enjoyed spending time here. This pub has that money can’t buy neighbourhood local feel where you feel immediately welcome. The beer line up was great and I loved the mix of old and new decor. This is another superb Stoke Newington hostelry that you need to pay a visit..ℹ️ Info correct on visiting 17.03.23
