Las Iguanas is a deservedly-popular restaurant and cocktail bar, with a strong Latin American theme, which is situated just inside the entrance to Portsmouth's Gunwharf Quays Premium Entertainment, Leisure and Retail complex, directly opposite the Holiday Inn Express hotel and a five-minute walk from the train, bus and ferry interchange at Portsmouth Harbour. The focus here is on the distinctive, highly-flavoured and heavily-spiced cuisines of Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, with dozens of tropical cooler cocktails to soothe taste buds scorched by the hot chillis, fiery ginger and incendiary onions. After a morning spent visiting several of Gunwharf Quay's upmarket designer clothing outlets I called in at Las Iguanas for a light lunch, consisting of a Starter (Six Shell-on Prawns in a tasty Pepper and Lime sauce with toasted Ciabatta bread) for GBP 8:50, a Main Course (Chicken Curry with Spring Onion Rice, Padron Peppers and Sweet Plantain) for GBP 17:00, and a Dessert (Coconut Panacotta with Pineapple Compote) for GBP 7:75. A pint of Corona Lager to wash down the Pollo con Corunu Curry cost GBP 6:40 and the Chocolate Orange Espresso Martini, with which I finished my meal, cost GBP 8:00. The hardworking and affable team of young waiters and waitresses provided excellent customer service with my food arriving promptly even though the restaurant was very busy. Portion sizes were adequate for their price points. The male toilets were scrupulously clean. I'd happily eat here again and maybe next time try what appears to be their signature dish - the Churrasco Mixed Grill, comprising steak skewers, chicken skewers and a fried egg with Mexican Rice for GBP 27:00.

In Gunwarf Quays with daughter on pre Christmas shopping trip. She had visited Las Iguanas elsewhere and suggested this for lunch. We both had wine and burritos with sides and thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was escellent and we returned, before taking the train home, for cocktails.

Dave our server was incredible! He looked after us from start to finish. Despite having nearly 30 people, nothing was a problem and he made sure everybody was happy. The food was delicious and the cocktails were great!

We usually come here at least once when visiting. This time started well and the food was good but, despite it not being particularly busy, we had to ask 3 times for the bill which seemed expensive but we paid without questioning because we had been waiting so long. On checking the receipt I found an ‘optional’ service charge had been added to the bill (10%) which wasn’t mentioned to us. I have no issue with tipping usually but it’s not ‘optional’ if it’s already on your bill and you aren’t made aware of it. I presume they are hoping you either don’t properly check the bill or don’t want to be seen as a Scrooge for asking for the ‘optional’ charge to be removed. Either way it is not the best way to go about things.

We (group of 6) had dinner and drinks a Wednesday evening and we had a great time! Our waitress Ana was incredibly helpful and made our experience at Las Iguanas much better! Food and drinks were good but portions were a bit small for the prize. Overall a good experience! Thank you again Ana!
