Beautiful country pub in a great village location. Clearly very popular as it's been very busy both times we've been here. Had the Sunday roast which was good - decent sized portions and very satisfying. Reasonable value for money. It's not necessarily stunningly memorable, but definitely left us full and happy on a cold winter's afternoon walk.

Sunday Roast is bang on. Side orders a tad expensive tho. The male staff were super-friendly & polite HSB on draught which is always excellent.

A lovely village and very pretty pub. Inside it was dark and cold. The fires were not working - on gas or electric where we were sitting and I gather there were no logs in the other room. The waitress did her best to keep shutting the doorway close to our table. The food was all right - would have preferred my beef to be rarer,it was mostly brown. Covered in thick gravy with an enormous dry Yorkshire pudding. The pork was all right - not enough gravy and Yorkshire pudding a bit odd with pork.

Fab location, service & delicious food ?❣️Went again & had to take stars off unfortunately.Although there is a beautiful fireplace as you enter the pub, no heat ?was evident today!.We sat in the front dining area & I was freezing! No fires working anywhere ?. We were seated by a door which tbh I had to keep closing to keep draft off. Disappointed as had taken relatives out to Chalton expecting a better experience. Service staff were excellent & food nice and hot.

Popped in for a late Sunday Lunch. It was a nice day so weren't expecting any availability. However, we got a wonderful seat in a covered seating area in the garden with outstanding views over the South Downs. The pub was nearing the end of the lunch rush but still packed. Regardless, we received our Roast Beef lunches within 10mins of ordering and it was truly excellent. Good sized portion and every element executed to perfection. Beef was tender and full of flavour. Perfect crispy/fluffy roast potatoes, great selection or veg and even a bonus gravy jug without asking.Worth going out of your way for if you want to eat a delicious Sunday lunch in a beautiful location at competitive prices.

Really excellent pub in a glorious location. Had fantastic weather too so sat on the deck. The menu was varied without being over done. Too many dishes means too much is prepared in advance so beware. Not the case here. Specials boards and choice for veggies and vegans? Service was good, beer (and cider) was good. Service at the tiny bar was friendly and efficient. Had a nice time.

My husband and I came here for the 1st time tonight and it did not disappoint! We enjoyed the food so much, and the service from the young girl was great! Lovely pub and we will be coming again very

Tracy gave us a wonderful tour of the old part of the pub. Dinner was delicious. It was a wonderful evening! Thank you!

We went there for lunch because they allowed our dog in the bar area. Menu was very pubby and nothing special but the specials were an interesting read. Starters (chicken wings and prawn cocktail) were very ordinary so 4/10 but the specials main courses were very disappointing. Cottage pie at £21+ was 2/3 mash and very little meat, the scampi was dry, thick coating/small meat and the chips were tasteless so 3/10. Will not return. Bar seemed disorganised.

Took a friend for lunch who had never visited The Red Lion before and we had the most lovely time. The staff were welcoming and their timings perfect. The food was really good and my friend said it was the best ‘Pork Belly’ she had ever tasted! I had the Lasagne which was very good accompanied by a couple of glasses of an excellent smooth Shiraz. Cleared plates all round. Water requested and presented in a lovely chilled bottle, nice touches make all the difference. Finished off with a lovely little look at the older parts of the pub with the landlord. Brilliant lunch, didn’t want it to end. Thanks all. We will return.

Myself, wife and mother-in-law visited for Sunday lunch. Very busy! Took a while (20mins) for our orders to be taken, but that was OK as we could see they were busy. Two roast dinners, two very disappointed diners! The veg consisted of one slice of carrot and a tablespoon of cabbage. Oh and a single healping of cauliflower cheese between two. But the potatoes stole the show with their impenetrable exterior. None were able to be eaten! I played it safe with a burger, at least so I thought. The driest burger I've ever had the misfortune to endure (and I've eaten a lot!). We did complain, twice in fact. The first response was "I'll pass it onto the chef" (no apology from the serving staff or chef). The second complaint was met with "I'm sorry to hear that (the meteor like potatoes)" and "was there no special sauce in the burger? There should have been". I stood for a moment expecting an apology and I was not disappointed "sorry luv" was the extent of the apology. Never, I repeat never will I go there or recommend to anyone else!

Long association with this lovely country pub. Food was very good. A little disappointed with the greeting and table service - a tad distant - but did not spoil our lunch

We didn't have food, but wished we had time too as it looked fabulous. We stopped on the off chance as we were in the area. We received a warm welcome and was really well looked after. Would highly recommend a visit.

Great pub located in the countryside. Not a huge selection of different beers but the beers available are decent. Quality of food was very good and portions were decent but food was a little pricey. The beer garden is big with plenty of seating which is broken into 3 areas, dogs are welcome and bowls and treats are available.
