We passed through here for a spot of lunch after a visit to Hertfordshire Zoo and oh my were we impressed! The place has just been taken over by new owners and the food and service was absolutely amazing! The food tasted so so good and you could tell that it was all freshly made from the best produce. The food was top quality and I can honestly say that the vanilla ice cream was the best that I have ever had, we were told that it is made locally about 3 miles away. We are not locals, we live in south London and this is probably one of the best pubs that I have been to. A huge shout out to Nada who was a fantastic host. I wish we lived local because I would be here all of the time. A must visit pub in the area for sure.

Went for lunch today as a group of 5. They were very accommodating to the kids we had and the staff especially Nada were all amazing. Food, service and setting was 10/10. Ps. YOU MUST TRY THE ICE CREAMS THAT ARE MADE LOCAL!! Just wow!!

How disappointing, really looking forward to our Saturday night meal out, don’t get to go out much these days. Started well, as a real ale drinker, beer was superb. Chose to eat in rear dining room which was just being vacated by a large family as we arrived. Sitting at our table we noticed the floor was covered in food where family had been and was not cleaned during our stay.My wife ordered fish and chips which she was very happy with. I ordered lamb shank, the first time I had ever had to cut the meat off the bone of lamb shank, it was as tough as old boots. I was offered a replacement which was exactly the same. I had nothing to eat but a few pieces of tough lamb but was still charged for my meal, which , neither of the two I ate .Such a shame, could be a great venue if the quality was better. Won’t return

Nada was a great host - from before we arrived in accommodating the last minute extra seating through to making us feel welcomed and well looked after throughout despite how busy it was. Thank you!

Terrible service, after we had eaten our starters we were told one of the mains we had ordered was suddenly unavailable and then when we had finished our mains nobody came to ask us if we wanted anything else to eat and in the end we got fed up with waiting and left our table and paid at the bar and received a half hearted apology from the barnan so won't be going back again

Went for Sunday lunch. The food was not good. The pork arrived incomplete without pork scratchings and apple sauce. When my guest asked for it, the waitress asked if it was actually pork? The meat wasn't really identifiable. I had turkey and it arrived a little cold and sad looking. The staff were very slow to clear tables and didn't serve particularly well.... we asked for a J20 and they brought a different drink brand in its place without explanation. When I asked for peppermint tea, they said they didn't have any but didn't think to provide alternative suggestions. Lots of room for improvement! It's cheap but we didn't want cheap, we wanted country pub and I used to love The Farmers Boy.

A proper country pub feel, and loads of treats for the dog, and food! The fish and chips are done perfectly and are a good size. We can also vouch for the Hunters Chicken. Veggie options, though, are a bit limited. Great deserts too, lots of options.

Really nice and friendly service at this pub. Went for the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and it was good. Definitely going to come back, but maybe in the summer next time. The outside area looked like it would be a nice place in the sunshine!Vegetarian options: Veggie burger with chips. Wellington with roast vegetables, vegetarian gravy and Yorkshire pudding.

Amazing little local pub. Attended by locals but also welcoming ‘tourists’. I wish all pubs were like this - cozy, clean & homely . It is secluded so without a car no way of getting there but it’s fine for someone who enjoys countryside - you’ll find your way ? It cemented my resolution to visit more pubs as they are being closed all across the country in big enough numbers.

Visited at Christmas Eve and had a lovely salad. The portions are generous, staff are helpful and friendly, service was quick, prices were fair. Decorations were warm, modern and welcoming.Kid-friendliness: Children's portions available and they are flexible with special requests.
