We-booked a Wednesday 7.30pm dinner at the newly refurbished Shoes to celebrate our wedding anniversary as it's only a half hour walk away and we like to support local businesses. The table was ready and we ordered a drink and a couple of starters, all good until we wanted a main. No tortellini, no Hake, no cod and chips, no pies! We were offered scampi and, somewhat disappointed, settled for that. Meanwhile the people on the next table were complaining that their Lamb shank with bubble and squeak had arrived with the b&s replaced with chips and they didn't want it as this is not what was ordered so paid for what they had already eaten and left. A couple who arrived shortly after this was told that there was no lamb shank left now, the menu was evidently shrinking unless you wanted burgers or steak! After a long wait our scampi arrived, tiny pieces, black bits in the chips and a an unappealing little jug of peas. When asked if everything was satisfactory we told the staff exactly what we thought of the experience and was told that they welcomed the feedback but 'as soon as the kitchen is up to speed things will improve'. If the kitchen aint ready don't open the restaurant - pretty basic really. The bill was wrong but 'sorry, we can't refund on this machine' !! Never experienced that before! We were offed a bottle of wine instead and grabbed it, by now just wanting to get away. We are not serial moaners and actually felt sorry for the young staff but, in a very competitive market, this customer service is just not good enough. To compound this, unknown to us at the time, our daughter had pre-called the restaurant to ask if she could pay for welcoming drinks for us and was surprised by the response, 'We can't do that over the phone, you'll have to come in to pay'. She's 145 miles away so a nice idea but unrealistic.

What a lovely pub. Decorated to a high standard inside and out. There is a great outdoor space for adults and a separate garden area for kids to run around while parents enjoy a drink. The new manager Steve is great and the staff were efficient, helpful and friendly . Thank you to Jamie and Daisy for looking after us so well. You cant go wrong with the food here as it is part of the Stonegate group, although I would love to see jacket potatoes on the menu. The breakfast menu looks really good so will get there before 12 to sample that menu next time. A great place to visit on a day out or for a special occassion. ROB &JEN

We’ve been here a couple times since it’s reopened. The food and drink selection is much nicer and a greater selection. We were served by Daisy last night and she was fab, it was great that she checked what condiments and sauces we would like before our food arrived. All restaurants should do this. We will be back regularly as we did before :)

Seriously great food, found the timings of food can be a little slow but I understood that the kitchen are still learning the menu to make it perfect. Fantastic customer service and I urge everyone to visit when they have the chance. Such lovely people and the garden is very nice for the summer sunshine! Will be going as often as I can! 5 stars all around.

Quick service very helpful friendly staff as always. Katie our waitress was really lovely & super efficient answering our questions and offering menu advice. The food was served quickly and all 3 courses where hot and well presented. Totally recommend a meal here.

The party booking was made prior to the pub changing hands however the new manager honoured the booking and agreed costs. Steve the manager and his staff were brilliant, they were very helpful sorting out whatever we needed for the venue ( a separate hall behind the main pub ) plus providing staff for the little bar . The Silver Buffet we had ordered was excellent there was lots of food and it was delicious, all the guests were impressed with the spread. Overall we were really impressed with the service provide and everyone went home happy

Thought the food before the refit was better Starters prawn and squid duo no prawns available so extra squid, but it was like Iceland frozen Mushroom cheese bruschetta / toast with a cheese sauce just warm very few mushrooms / this was a very amateurish dish. Then chicken duo no flavour very basic Rump steak this was good I asked for medium and it was not over cooked, tasted great, let down by bland un imaginative chips and button mushrooms Hake my brother thought was good Overall it just had no wow factor, very reasonable pricing but Weatherspoon has the edge Need to be more creative and home prepare the food Three horseshoes team get some Parmesan cheese and black pepper in circulation use salad garnish add sauces like peppercorn, triple cook chips and so on

Visited for an evening meal. The pub has obviously recently changed hands and has had a nice revamp. Now the bar has been transformed from its previously comfortable but very dark and gloomy interior, to a bright, airy and welcoming space. Sadly the meat sharing platter was unavailable, nor the seafood platter either. The veggie platter was, but was quite underwhelming especially for the price. The goyoza were absent, and the garlic bread was literally sliced bread with cheese and garlic on top! It was also soggy. The olives were particullarly lovely though, but overall it was a confused looked plate. My husbands burger was nothing to rush back for either sadly The staff were very friendly and welcoming though Had they returned to check our meals, I would have given them my thoughts I do hope the food is sorted out as this is a much nicer pub to visit now

Thank you Amy and the team, we had a lovely meal this evening. Food was great and the pub looks and feels great since the renovations-superb country pub with a great selection of beers… well done ?

Visited this pub after it's recent refurbishment what a treat, it's been revitalised with new menus and much improved drink selection. Good value varied menu with traditional and gastro pub selection, staff very helpful and attentive.
