Went here on New Year’s Eve and waited two hours for our food to be ready - waitress kept forgetting our drinks orders, took ages for them to give us a menu.

From the warm welcome from Alaur combined with the ambiance of the restaurant. The service of Alaur and Arju and the brilliant food from owner Chad and his kitchen Team It was an evening of perfection We will be back Amazing

This is the second time in two weeks we have been to Chez Mumtaj and whilst the food is good the price and the service are shocking. On our first visit we had to wait an 1hr 45 between the starter and main. We gave them the benefit of the doubt as it was busy. On the 2nd visit we waited just shy of 2hrs. We had to ask where our food was. We were totally ignored most of the night and the price was astronomical for both visits. We have used the Mumtaj on a few occasions over the years but will probably go elsewhere next time.

Enjoyed a first visit with a couple who are regulars. The place is very comfortable with an interesting menu. Service was very good and the food was of high quality

This is a most excellent restaurant . The staff are great and the food sublime . For starters we all had the salmon . That was perfect . For main courses , two had the shell fish , one the lamb pasanda and one the chicken , very hot mushrooms and naan breads added to the meal . Superb all round . Regrettably there was only one poached pear left , two shared that !

Wonderful place to experience Indian food in st Alban's. We found this gem of a place through its high ratings and many awards. The staff are really nice and cater to your needs. The food was well presented and tasted authentic. Cocktails where superbly made. The decor is classy. The only bad point I have to say is as I came late I could tell the staff were eager to close up and go home , and I understand. I will definitely be back

High-end Indian restaurant situated on London Road close to town in St Albans. Lovely interior with crisp white table cloths, luxurious ambience and good service . The food was nice. We had the Mumtaz salad ( excellent), salted lassi, coriander naan ( soft and light), prawns ( very good quality), biryani, lemon rice and spinach with paneer. The spinach was amazing, unlike any we have had before in an Indian restaurant. To end, we had mango brulee also very good. This is one of the best Indian restaurants that St. Albans has to offer. Would visit again. Nice place for a celebration

The most expensive Indian in the area. The chicken and lamb dishes are served in big chunks. Smaller cuts and more pieces would be better and more flavourful. Chicken tikka masala taste like Campbell’s tomato soup .... I know you think I am stretching it but order it to try

Loved this restaurant - service was great even when super busy on a Saturday night. Every dish tasted great down to the naan. Chef deserves credit for attention to detail and flavours. The atmosphere is cosy and feels like you've gone somewhere special. Fully recommend.

I went there for my first time and I noticed the place was totally empty, it took a while to understand if they had a table for two and eventually got something.\\nIn general food was good, bottle of wine starts from 25 GBP and ended up to be about 35 GBP each.\\n\\nThe dinner place was too big, at least you would think it was from looking outside, and they had a small bar place at the entrance. I might go back to try the bar but food was a be it expensive.

The best Indian restaurant i have been to so i don't mind the long drive to get there. Comfortable clean dining room, friendly and helpful staff and the food is excellent. Best quality ingredients from tiger prawns starters, monkfish curry and amazing lamb chops. Not typical although the usual dishes are also on the menu which is one you want to try everything on! I have been coming here for some years now and the quality and standard remain consistently high.

Returned again to this excellent restaurant. My wife and I went for Valentine’s night and they had a special menu for the night I must say the combination of the superb dishes were the best we have had in any restaurant of this quality. The mix of dishes were great and we were busting by the end of the meal Staff and management are always very courteous and polite. I highly recommend this restaurant for a perfect evening

Still waiting…No reply?!?!? Poor quality food from a business that sells Indian food yet sourced via supermarkets but claiming its home made. No acknowledgement to my original review. Again suggests no value around customer service.

It was great to visit this restaurant for a special birthday celebration We booked quite late on the day & they still managed to accommodate us. It was for a party of four. I have to say chez Mumtaj food is amazing. The flavours of every individual dish is unique and the service level is on point,The deco of the restaurant is well presented with neutral colours We had a mixture of starters from lamb chops to king prawns also some chicken appetisers For the main courses,we had a number of dishes from the famous dum Biriyani to the house special dishes. What I found was every dish has a very unique flavour,It is quite remarkable to find such good food so local,it is quite humbling to see that food from the Far East such as current Bangladesh, previously east Pakistan/India from the Empire of the British colonial times what we brought back that Food has come so far and it’s available to all As a third generation migrant from the Far East if my parents was still around I am sure they would’ve been proud to eat food such good quality food as prepared here in this kitchen, from 1952 when they got here and how it has Improved to now is quite amazing. I would Like to thank team chez mumtaj for a great evening.
