Terrible service at the shop. There were a bunch of us waiting at the takeaway counter. We waited for a good 15-20 mins but no one came to serve us or at least tell us that they are busy and couldn’t serve. Many times the staff just walk by in front of us and said nothing.

Such a wonderful place! The food is fantastic - the fish in particular is so delicate and the batter is perfect. The restaurant itself is very pretty, lovely decor and the staff are great. Will definitely be here again when I’m next in

Lucky to get a table on a busy Sunday evening. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Food was traditional fish and chips in the best way.Great selection of drinks to go with it too. Will be making this our regular when we come to Broadstairs.Kid-friendliness: Very welcoming to the kids, with colouring in sheets offered while we waited.

A lovely restaurant with the most delicious fish and chips, the medium cod and chips and the medium haddock and chips were fab, and we had them with curry sauce and mushy peas. Yum, yum, yum... The service was great too. Thank you for a great night.

A great restaurant with delicious food. We would highly recommend it. The cod and the haddock were yummy, with really crispy, light batter, the chips were crispy, and the curry sauce and mushy peas the perfect sides, all washed down with Whitstable Pale Ale. Yum, yum, yum... Thank you.

The reason I’m giving The Mermaid a one star review is that half way through my food I discovered a black curly strand of hair in my haddock and chips. When I raised this with the waitress, she took this to the chef who simply denied it being any of there hairs, despite him having black curly hair and did not wear a hair net (or gloves) when making my food. The irony of this is I was wearing a scarf which fully covered my hair, so it couldn’t be mine! There was no apology from the chef, no compensation or refund or anything at all. £12.50 for a meal with the chefs hair in it!!! Never left a bad review in my life till this point. Appalling hygiene for a place that is has a 5 star hygiene rating and appalling service.
