So I’ve been to the axe and square 4 times since it reopened. The first time was when it just opened and we were very apprehensive about it because we knew they owned several other local pubs in the area and didn’t want the same menu. The menu and meal was fantastic and we soon returned to try the Sunday meal which was lovely . However this evening we returned to try it again but we were really disappointed. Why have the same menu as 3 other restaurants in the area? just because you own them why serve the same food ??? So disappointed they now have a similar menu to the other pubs they own. It will be a while before we try any of them again.

This is the second time we've been and the service has been amazing, aslo the food......but this time we had a little hiccup with our steak. The only reason it hasn't got a full 5* for the food was because our rare fillet steak was cooked medium. But it was still very nice.Carpark is a little small, but there is paid parking just round the cornerWill definitely be back. I recommend you visit here ?

Nice homely and welcoming pub that's great for a family get together or a quiet meal for two! Good range of dishes on the menu with traditional pub classics like fish n chips, burgers steaks etc as well seasonal specials and gluten free options too. Sunday roasts and kids menu are also available.Outdoor seating area and a bar if you only want liquid refreshments. Car park and nearby bus route if you don't want to drive.Vegetarian options: See menu for dishesKid-friendliness: Kids menu plus out door area if they want to run aroundParking: Car park or nearby street park availableDietary restrictions: Gluten free menu available.

The food is really good at this place… however the food is quite expensive. The staff are not very friendly and it seems that it’s to much trouble just to get some sauce or drinks. Quite rude really.

Emily was very attentive, even though she had alot of tables to serve. My card was initially declined, but Emily kept calm and we resolved the situation. Areas of improvement green beans were a little too hard and home fries were a little salty. The food was good value for money and very well cooked to our taste. All the staff are very polite and cheerful. Good choice of Sunday roasts and alternatives.Vegetarian options: Limited

Second time for Sunday lunch. The food is excellent, well cooked and nicely presented. The pub itself has been refurbished to a high standard, quite a transformation from it's former self. Good range of beers but zero % beer only in bottles. Well worth a visit.

Our first visit this evening for my Mums birthday. The food was fantastic! Good choices on the menu and the potions were very generous. Eaton Mess Pavlova was to die for! Our waiters Jack and Reece were great and nothing was too much trouble. Lovely atmosphere and was made to feel very welcome. Will definitely be back!

Came for Sunday lunch and had a lovely time. Staff are really friendly and the food is great. There's a few ales behind the bar which is a nice bonus too.

Booked lunch for 6 for the MIL's birthday on a recommendation and it didn't disappoint. Pleasantly greeted and seated quickly. The Menu selection looked good with many tempting options. We ordered various starters and mains, as well as drinks. The drinks arrived quickly as did the starters. The mains were brought to us shortly after we finished our first course. The food was delicious, I do our cooking at home and we don't often go out as I hate paying for food that is sub par to my own and I have to say Axe & Square hit the mark, I would happily eat there over and over again. It was so good we went back the week later for my own birthday lunch, again we were well looked after and the food was first rate.My faves; Tex Mex Chicken Strips Starter and the Gochujang Chicken Loaded Naan.Highly recommended.

The refurbishment is very nice, just a shame the service is poor. We had to catch someone to order our food, and again to order more drinks. When the food arrived we asked for Vinegar and Mayonnaise , on the 3rd time of asking we received it. The steaks were cooked well but the chips were awful, lovely ones on top of the pot and what can only be described as scratchings underneath!!! We never had a service check to tell them and after the wait for the vinegar, we just ate what we could.

We have finally had the family in the right place at the right time and booked a table for four.Great reception on arrival. Food was served very quickly and the quality of which was brilliant. Great presentation and superb service. Will definitely be going again.Just a note. My wife is gluten free and she was really grateful for a good range to choose on her menu.Thank you to all the staff. Great team

We went to The Axe for lunch and were not disappointed. Greeted with a smile and a friendly person on entering. We hadn't booked, but I think next time we will as it seemed to be getting busier whilst we were there. The menu was varied and offered both vegan and gluten-free options. The food we ordered was from the lunchtime light bites menu, which was reasonably priced at 2 for £18 and they were really well presented, and tasty. The refurbishment looks great. It is fully recommended.
