One of those pubs with that 'your 2nd living room feel'. No wonder it as already a nice level of full early evening on a Wednesday. Best pint of ale I've had in a while: Everards Phoenix. Landlady was lovely too.

Glen and Caz have done a smashing job since they took over. I visit many pubs and you rarely get more than your order at the bar and a friendly hello/enjoy. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it’s just these two go above and beyond to make you feel incredibly welcome and it’s somewhere I now frequently visit and prioritise over other establishments. Constantly adding great new additions as well such as food, darts, open mic and quizzing whilst also allowing plenty of opportunity for a quiet drink as well. These are exactly the sort of landlords the city needs.

Grand pub, lovely people, great atmosphere, and home to a brilliant Chester. If you haven't experienced a Chester before, you owe it to yourself to visit this outstanding example! Good food too.

Spent the evening in this lovely pub celebrating my birthday. The new landlords (Glen & Carolyn) are an amazingly friendly couple and made us very welcome. The atmosphere in there is just perfect; great background music, warm log fire and drinks aplenty. Bar staff (Jade) attentive and the wonderful pub dog Chester for company. Thanks for a great evening; we’ll definitely be back!

Myself and my partner have been going to the Robert peel pub for 18 years, as it's our local. The new owners Caz and glen what a breath of fresh air, they are welcoming, friendly such a great atmosphere, Chester the family dog he's absolutely gorgeous so friendly but is an old dog who likes to lay by the fire, Thursday quiz nights are fun great atmosphere. Great music, back ground music. Great pub would highly recommend this pub, also all the bar staff are so friendly but one in particular is jade who also is a great person.

Since the new owners - Glen and caz - took over in December 2023, I have seen huge difference. Love to see local pub getting busy and they really do make you feel welcomed. The atmosphere don't feel somber. There's alot of fun and banter with the owners/locals. They host fun quizes on Thursday night! I recommend visiting them and show the support.

I would never normally post a review when I haven’t visited the premises for a year since new owners have taken over. However, there are some very confusing messages which are actually misleading.Last month, I asked a question on Google as to whether dogs are still permitted. Now, I am very much a technophobe so honestly, I don’t know the difference between asking a question on Google and finding an email to contact someone. After no response to my question, I had my more technologically abled friend find me a “contact form” which then enabled me to have a conversation with the owner “Glen”, who informed me that if I was trying to get a hold of the previous owner, this message had obviously been “lost in translation” - I don’t know what was lost in translation about asking if dogs are still allowed , but maybe he meant because the previous owners had Scottish accents?Again, my question was not answered. So I persevered and asked again whether our large group would still be able to attend with the dogs? We had done so the previous year and had a fabulous time with great food and drink and conversation with the owners. This was met with a response that our group could be booked in, but no dogs as their dog was aging.I responded saying that was a shame, as the previous owners had accommodated us, despite their dog not particularly taking to all visiting dogs- so we would have to bypass the Peel on this occasion. All we were asked to do on previous visit was to keep to a specified area and the dogs on the lead. This was met by another response making excuses that the dog was old and deserved his retirement by the fire. This was understandable if not a little frustrating and extreme- never mind the income lost on a weekend with no sport (we specifically planned our visit for that weekend as we knew the pub would be quieter compared to football and rugby). The landlord had also explained to us previously that hot meals are not available on match days.My frustration and anger were picqued when I wandered on to the pubs Facebook page to find lots of pictures of the pub dog and absolutely nothing about other dogs no longer being allowed. The fact that you have those images AND Google still shows that dogs are allowed is misleading. If the new owners feel unable to accommodate a large group, they should have been honest and said so.Thank goodness I did check or that would have been a wasted journey from Frome.

Popped in for New Year's Eve after the Tigers game on the last day of an epic three day Rugby tour throughout England. This was without a doubt the best pub I found during all my travels. Great atmosphere, amazing real ales, tasty pies, and a great local crowd. The new Landlords are lovely people and the bartender was spot on. If you enjoy a local pub this is your spot, trust me.Thank you guys for an amazing time, I wish you all the best, I'll be back!
