Classic, wonderful hotel in the middle of one of the most beautiful towns in the country. We live just around the corner so we haven't stayed but we so enjoy visiting for breakfast and coffee in the lounge. It's unique and that's part of its charm. 100% different from the modern cookie cutter hotels built these days.Try the breakfast - you won't be disappointed.

Xmas Eve was magical and as always beautifully decorated. But. Expensive. But that's what you expect. It's not meant to be cheap in there. In context- £20 total for a mineral water (£3.95 a small glass bottle), small (125ml) glass of house white wine and a pint of Stella Atois. Did not eat here, but "starters" ranged from £12.95 to £18 and "light bites" were £15 upwards. From the brief glance I saw of a table menu.Very busy, service was slow waited 20 minutes to get drinks but the stewardship was polite and patient and served customers with grace, just not enough staff to cope, not their fault and everyone waiting was courteous and patient. Downside was the overwhelming amount of dirty glasses and plates with leftover food everywhere in the York Bar. I saw one waiter all evening attempting to clear the tables and he looked exhausted and although remained polite and helpful it was obvious that he hadn't had a break. It's very difficult during the festive season, to manage so many people, but for the George, I was shocked at how unkempt the tables were and it wasn't the nicest thing to see on entry. However, that aside, it's a lovely atmosphere everyone is warm and welcoming, and people watching is really good!

First class hotel, located in the beautiful Georgian Stamford. Ideal for every occasion. We’ve enjoyed breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, evening meals and accommodation over many memorable visits. Oak room dining a must.

The price of the food was incredibly expensive for average meals. Did not receive bread and butter required for my dish and the staff seemed very indifferent. Please Google the menu before you book so that you can see the extortionate prices of each dish.

So I’ve been coming to the George for years. Known as a prestigious establishment within Stamford that upholds strong values and the need to cater for everyone. I come on Christmas Eve for a few drinks with friends and am met by three requests that cannot be fulfilled. The first is that they no longer sell cigars. Granted that isn’t very important but the George has been the only place that sells a prestigious item. Secondly I ask for a mulled wine of which this amazing establishment has “run out”, can’t make any more at 7pm and had no plan to make any more. Thirdly, I ask for 10 baby Guinness, the answer from the bar staff is… “sorry we can’t because it’s not on the menu” the response from the hotel manager is that we can but not today. So what is it? It’s either not on the menu? Or not today? Bear in mind that the bar is not busy and the staff certainly are not busy. This alone completely undermines the ethos of the George, to cater for everyone’s needs. I’ve been coming here for years and I can honestly say I won’t be coming here again. The service is shocking. And for the price you are paying you expect an extra level of care and experience

Location great. Everything else…. Not impressed. The service is incredibly slow. The first time it was busy so that understood that maybe they were understaffed but went when it was quiet again to give them a second chance. Still no better! Took 45 mins to even get a waiter to come and take out order. Then we find a half eaten dead rat on the floor under our table. The moved us to the bar area and didn’t offer anything to apologise for the inconvenience.waiters seemed like they were wanting to help etc etc but then run away and never came back to us with our queries. So just left us and no respect in coming back to us. It just felt they never cared!I’m just really disappointed with the service and how everything was handled. We gave them the benefit of the doubt the first time but second time was no better and the same poor standards.Do not recommend at all! And won’t be giving them another chance.

Lovely mint tea and delicious mince pies and brandy cream sat by the roaring log fire in the comfortable lounge. A real treat at Christmas time.

We had our Christmas Dinner in the Garden Room. The service was a bit slow to begin with but was fine once they had taken our order. We had a variety of starters. I had the French soup and was pleased that I did, as some of the other starters were quite large. The soup was flavoursome but not overly spicy or hot.Again we had a good variety of mains. The burgers were truly large but I had the haddock and chips. The fish was well cooked and served with what seems to be a homemade tartar sauce. The chips were the semi chunky type and were lovely.

HelloI’ve visited the george garden room many times from 2016 to 2018But I moved awayI was fortunate enough to be in Stamford last month and visited with a friendBoth the service and portion size has gone down significantlyWe were almost given the wrong mealWhich was delivered incorrectly then removed without apologySeveral times I spoke about the brusque ness but didn’t seem to register with our serverThe food portion was extremely smallFor example the cheese plate was 4 grapes 2 tiny strips of celery four slithers of cheeseCelery costs pennies to buy as do grapes why do stingy and the cheese portions were ridiculously smallThe mains were roughly assembled salad and liver portion good but measly portion of potatoes and cabbage- again pennies to buy - come on guys I was hungry ? I’m sorry but won’t returnAmyNoteworthy details: Not enough food

Went for morning coffee as a treat with my sister. Had 1 Latte and 1 cappuccino. Both came in very small cup with saucer. Unfortunately only warm, so sent back and got refreshed cups this time with biscotti. Paid £11.60 total for 2 very mediocre coffee very poor, will not return. It’s a shame because the environment is beautiful and the staff pleasant

I love this hotel! I would give it 5 stars, but for the fact I have a disability and there is no lift.Rooms: Each room is different, in keeping with the age and history of the building . Beautifull.Nearby activities: Easy walking distance for seeing Stamford .Walkability: A bit hilly for people with walking disability but easy access to Riverside walks and meadows .Food & drinks: There is a choice of dining. The formal restaurant or the garden room . In good weather there is ample comfortable space in the old coach yard. The food is great and reasonably priced for what it is. The staff are always attentive but not intrusive. The garden room is very relaxed and the menu varied and quite extensive.
