Ending a wonderful weekend away in Cromer for my sister-in-laws 30th birthday celebrations with what we thought would be a delicious meal; unfortunately this was not the case due to already chewed GUM being present in my sister-in-laws husbands meal. Despite being a pretty serious health and safety violation, the owner seems to think it is appropriate to further harass via a phone call the following day and create inappropriate responses through Google reviews - despite this issue being raised with their manager, and an amicable solution being reached before we left the premises.Whether or not it was the first bite, or the last bite, of a meal - this is a serious violation of health and safety, and for it to be taken as lightly as it is (judging from the owners response), quite frankly - is not professional at all. Additionally, to further place the blame on to two young girls aged 4 and 5 is ridiculous; there is no accountability or remorse, and to add - what sort of parent would allow children that young to have chewing gum? It seems far more likely that a member of kitchen staff is bored, near the end of their shift and chewing gum - rather than 2 children who are about to eat their dinner?I would also like to point out, amongst glancing through the kitchen window, I saw chefs cooking in hoodies and what seems like personal clothes - ideally there should be no external pockets, and be light in colour. It does not matter that you “know your staffs clothes are clean, or that they do not chew gum” - you can not personally guarantee this, and it does not come across that way from our point of view.Whether this be a kitchen staff issue, the cleaning of utensils, or a supplier issue - the way this has been handled is abysmal; it does not matter where the gum has come from, how this was handled was incorrect and in turn is damaging the reputation of what does seem like a lovely establishment.Despite all of this, the front of house gentlemen were both lovely, attended us regularly and made sure the kids had colouring books; I hope the owner can be an adult about this and ensure this does not happen again. This is basic food hygiene that is taught in secondary school.

Been to the Foundry Arms a few times now and each time the food is incredible with lovely warm and welcoming staff. Well priced food and drinks. Live music on a Sunday evening is a great touch. Wouldn't hesitate in recommending to anyone and will definitely return!

RESPONSE TO OWNER.Your absolute lack of accountability is embarrassing. Do you realise this can be read by the general public?Just to clear things up, you called me and I have evidence of this. The reason Adam was on his last mouthful was because we all received our meals at different times and 2 of us were outside when the meals came - the rest were sorting the children. Thank you for making me aware of the fact that 7 + 3 = 10, however one of the guests is 3 months old, so didnt class her as a paying customer, as she didnt fancy a steak and ale pie for dinner.Someone has obviously dropped their chewing gum transferring the slow cooked pie mix into the actual pies and unless you personally inspect the inside of the mouths of your staff, you cannot claim that they don't chew gum!!! Evidently they do.We DID NOT leave without paying, we confronted the manager who suggested, before we asked, that he would remove all the food from the bill. We paid £61 for our drinks and again I have evidence of this. You blamed our innocent children for your mistake, tried to tell us it was a piece of fat and then informed me that you would call the police 'for theft.'The way you have handled this is unprofessional and cringe worthy. I am currently in the process of reporting to health and safety and trading standards.ps. its 'merely' not 'mearly'AVOID!!!!!!!!!On the 2nd March, my family and I attended the foundry arms for a special meal to celebrate my 30th birthday. There were 9 of us all together, 7 adults and 3 children. The evening started off well with a drink and friendly service from the gentlemen working that evening. All was going well until my husband went to finish his steak pie, the last mouthful and he was stunned to discover something absolutely disgusting in his food, there was CHEWING GUM in his pie.We honeslty couldn’t believe it, but it was 100% without a doubt minty CHEWED gum.Adam instantly ran to the toilet and stayed there, for the rest of our evening, gagging over the toilet. We all felt completely sick and none of us could finish our meals. My plate was still full. Our waiter was completely stunned and also disgusted once we showed him the vile discovery.. we remained calm, polite and discreet about the situation, not wanting to upset any other customers enjoying and ordering food. It was agreed that we would cover our drinks bill (around £60) and the food would be taken off (the managers suggestion!) Which to be honest, is the absolute least they could have done considering we all felt sick and my birthday meal was completely ruined. We went home and tried to just move on from it. Since then, the owner has been in touch with my sister and unfortunately not handled the situation well at all. Hence, why I’m now leaving this review. She has since implied that.. One of our daughters planted the chewing gum as a “prank” so now not accepting responsibility and BLAMING our 4&5 year old girls, who were absolute angels throughout the whole ordeal.Unbelievably she has now threatened to “call the police, as we refused to pay for our meal” I’m genuinely so stunned with such a statement I don’t even really know what to say, it’s just absolutely abysmal. As a small business owner myself, I completely understand that things happen, we’re only human and mistakes are made. But this isn’t the odd hair, it was a chewed up piece of gum and the way it’s been handled has just been a disgrace, treating customers like criminals and passing blame when really we just wanted a lovely evening together to celebrate a special day.Absolutely do not recommend, in fact, avoid altogether.

A super community pub in a quiet village. Lovely atmosphere and people. An extensive menu all home prepared. Two of us had the seafood sharing platter including lobster and hot and cold selections for £59. But then you can have reasonably priced fish and chips or steaks. Home fired pizza menu as well. Ace place and good luck to the owners for the future.
