Stayed for a couple of nights, rooms were adequate, large with good views. Is an old country house so comes with great gardens. A little off the beaten track. Rooms need a little bit of work. Could be endbof season and rooms are fixed on rotation!!!.Service was great. Only ate breakfast which was great. Went out with friends in local area at night.Beds were very soft and comfortable.

Superb! The staff were incredible! Spent the weekend at grinkle park for a wedding. Absolutely brilliant, gorgeous grounds and faultless wedding day! But the staff who went above and beyond and we’re just great fun are what made it. Especially the manager. Thank you.

Comes up as a '4 star posh hotel in 35 acres of grounds' on Google. Certainly isn't 4 star or posh by my experience. First night was OK, dinner was actually quite nice, 2 course dinner inclusive package, with a free glass of fizz. Food was fine, if overly salty. The local crab salad with sun dried tomato oil contained no trace of any sun dried tomato oil and was pretty bland. Room we had was tired. Not sure what made it deluxe - cheap instant coffee, a kettle that boils continuously without turning off, generic bathroom goo for hair, body hands, anything else.... same goo over the bath and the sink, no decent toiletries :( The bed was comfy and sitting chairs in the room were comfy. Not sure what the stool in the bathroom was for and why it is present in any hotel room in the condition it is, never mind a 4 star. Dinner on the second night was abysmal. Trout was unavailable by 7pm when we ordered, although this was not mentioned when we were given menus. Stale bread. Rose wine presented which had been kept at room temperature so was only cooling down by time we had finished. Starter advertised as Smoked Cod Roe, Crispy Oyster, Tarragon oil. What arrived was a soggy deep fried oyster swimming around in what tasted like uncooked cream. No sign of any cod roe and no flavour of tarragon. Sea bream substituted trout so my wife ate the same thing two nights running. Fish was OK if a little over cooked. A tiny undercooked attempt at fondant potato accompanied it, along with some samphire. The worst part was the sauce which was split, lumpy and allegedly contained champagne. Staff were uninterested when a few faults were pointed out and seemed to lack training in general. The lady serving on Sunday night & Monday breakfast was much better and was attentive. Otherwise a massive lack of attention in general. The bar is rarely attended and very difficult to attract attention. Upon close inspection the bathroom is pretty filthy and the fan sounds like a road digger so difficult to have a relaxing bath. The resident spider seemed to do better for his dinner than I did that nightRooms: TiredNearby activities: Whitby is very good and localWalkability: Not walkable to anywhereFood & drinks: Disappointing

Was confused when no one mentioned the 'service charge' when paying the bill. When I asked what it was for, I was told you don't have to pay it! I was told there are signs around saying about the 'service charge'.
