Called Tuesday 26th March - afternoon.Gorgeous, atmospheric little cafe! Built 1605, lots of beams etc.Lovely friendly staff. They seemed to know their regulars but we're just as friendly to first time visitors. Quick service. Lots of choice of cake. Very busy. Big turnover of customers. We had passion fruit cheesecake and sticky ginger.Might be tricky for wheelchairs - but I feel the staff would do their best to accommodate anyone. We will definitely return when next in Ripon.Yes, I would definitely recommend ??

Lovely historic cafe with a great atmosphere. They make locals and visitors very welcome. Great cakes and a huge choice of meals as well. Such friendly and helpful staff. We always call in when we are in

Lovely little café, they managed to squeeze me in for half an hour before a reservation for a bite to eat and coffee. Seems like a really important community asset as the servers know everyone by name; would definitely be a regular if I lived locally!

Love coming to Ripon from East Yorkshire, we had done a lovely walk along the River Skell & Laver in beautiful sunshine yesterday and were looking for somewhere for lunch and happened on this café in a beautiful building. Greeted by a very friendly lady who found us a table in their back room. Menu was wonderful with plenty to choose from, after a lot of deliberation I choose brie & caramelised onion panini it was delicious as was the coffee, all very reasonable priced. Staff are very attentive they are wonderful, don't know why we've been in here before but we will definitely return.

Lovely food prepared to order. Good variety on the menu, many of which can be made gluten free.Friendly staff, although not the quickest service (but it's a small kitchen).Daily specials make it hard to choose!Dietary restrictions: Menu items clearly marked for those that can be GF and the staff are great and will help guide you.Several GF cakes to pick from!

We had the best scones ever this morning at Wakeman’s. They are large and the clotted cream and jam were equally delicious. I think the jam is homemade. Hayley was so accommodating. I had several deviations from the menu and every time I said, “could I have…” she smiled and said, “sure.” The place was packed but service was prompt. This is the oldest building in Ripon, near the car park. Try it. You will like it.

We visit Ripon maybe 4 to 5 times a year from our home in Doncaster and always go for lunch here. It was certainly a lucky find some years ago and we haven't been anywhere else in Ripon since. The staff are so friendly and even if they are full, they will go out of their way to reserve a table for you at a later time. The food is also consistently good, whether its one of their specials, sandwiches, ploughman's or a delicious scone or the many mouth watering cakes. They also do afternoon tea which is very reasonable. The lady who owns the tearooms is so welcoming and knows a lot of customers by their names which is always a good sign when people are regulars. She will always stop for a little chat During the Covid pandemic when we were able to visit places, albeit with masks on, the owner did so well by distancing the tables and putting up perspect screens between tables which made you feel safe. We are certainly looking forward to our next visit in the near future for more delicious cakes and sandwiches. Best wishes to the lady owner and her loyal staff, who obviously enjoy working there. Keep up the good work

Highly recommend. Lovely Yorkshire welcome in a grade 2* listed building built before 1604. Hidden by another building until 1947!

Very old building with an historic wattle and daub wall. Afternoon tea excellent with quality sandwiches and good cake or scone. Watch price for two as £15.95 on website, £18.50 on menu but £20.35 when all items were separately totalled.

A very friendly welcome with cheerful staff goes a long way. We were squeezed in though we hadn't booked, and well looked after. The lunch was very good and reasonably priced.
