Great value for money. The room was clean and well appointed, the bed linens exceeded expectations (immaculate, floofy, cushy) and the location felt a lot closer to points of interest than it looked on the map (bus a short walk away or a longer but doable walk to York minster). The parking was hugely appreciated and the breakfast was generous and tasty. My only drawback is the weak shower; I wanted to wash my hair but the stream was pretty anaemic and there was no hope. I’d seen the bit about the showers in reviews before booking and imagined it was whinging….that said, I imagine if they could do something about it they would have because they seem super conscientious about everything else.Overall a great stay at a price point just over half what some of the budget chains were asking for the same night. I’d happily stay here again.

Stayed 1 night with family when we visited York in Dec/23. Booked a triple room but was shocked when Arthur showed us to a room with 5 beds! Arthur is very friendly & helped immediately when we had issue with the shower. We had a good dinner in pub in York city with Arthur's recomendations. Nice & comfortable beds. Woke up to a sumptuous English breakfast. Hotel is abt 20mins walk to city center.

It’s a nice quiet place, there was construction work going on outside but not the owners fault. It was close to the train station so we were able to walk from there to the guesthouse. We also were 20 min walk from the shops and main area. The bus stop is right around the corner, one of many so there are many to choose from. The owner was nice, breakfast was great.

I booked 5 rooms for a hen party. I emailed the owner in advance of my booking to confirm they accepted hen party bookings and was given the go ahead. I received an email a few days before arriving asking for names of all guests for each of the 5 rooms, which I duly completed. Due to an issue with card payment, I received a call from the owner the day before to make payment over the phone which was no problem. There was some confusion during the call about the number of rooms as he believed we had only booked 4 but I had booked 5 and completed the email as requested which said the same, but a quick check on the system confirmed 5 rooms so all corrected. I asked what time check in was and was told 2pm. We arrived at 1:50pm ish and were asked to wait in the dining area which was no problem as we were 10 minutes early. When we were taken to our rooms about 20 minutes later, the same issue happened - owner believed we had booked 4 rooms but it was 5, so we had to wait in the corridor whilst he went down again to check the booking system. Not a big deal, but a mild inconvenience considering I had completed the email confirmation the hotel sent me, and also confirmed over the phone the night before. However all sorted once again but 2 of the 5 rooms were not ready, which was disappointing considering we were checking in after the time I had been told, so really rooms should have been ready. Again, not the end of the world, as those without access to their own room could go into one of the others to wait, but still inconvenient. The rooms, once we had all of them, were clean enough, although definitely areas for improvement. Faeces on the toilet in one of them, a half drank bottle of water left on the bedside table in another, and panty hose from a previous guest in the bin of another room. However, beds were fresh and comfortable and alright for one night. Breakfast was nice and the lady serving was very friendly. The owner also agreed to take us into York as we couldn’t get a taxi which was very kind of him. The main reason for the low rating is that sadly the owner could be very rude and abrupt at times. We were a hen party group, yes, but the average age of our party was 44. We weren’t teenagers who would destroy the room, however we were told repeatedly not to put straighteners or tongs on the beds. Once gentle reminder wouldn’t have raised an eyebrow, but the owner stressed and stressed this as if we were all idiots, so I was nervous to even use my straighteners at all, even though I had them nowhere near the bed. Furthermore, I received a stern talking to from the owner at check in about drinking in the rooms. I was told we had to go downstairs if we wanted to drink, so I asked if we could take our own drink, and it honestly felt like I was being told off by the headmaster whilst I stood there dumbfounded and unsure what to say. My own father never spoke to me that way and the last thing I expected upon checking into a hotel that I’d paid £600 for, was to receive a lecture about how it was illegal to drink our own alcohol in the bar area. I honestly felt like I had been scolded like a naughty child just for asking a question. What was more frustrating was that the bar never appeared to be open the entire time we were there, so I found this very confusing. Several times during the tirade, I tried to end it by saying variations of ‘okay that’s fine, it was just a question’ only to be cut off and told ‘would you ask to take your drink into any other bar?’ I just found this rude and unnecessary when a simple ‘no, sorry, we don’t allow that’ would have sufficed. I have anxiety and depression and this was very upsetting to me. It made me not want to stay and have to be talked down by the other people in the group. Other people also had similar interactions with the owner, yet at other times he couldn’t have been nicer. We just didn’t know how he was going to react at any moment which created an uncomfortable atmosphere. We all got the sense he was uncomfortable with a hen party group but if that is the case then perhaps the ho

This was the fourth time my wife and I have stayed at The Clifton Bridge Hotel. It’s our go to place if we visit York. Only a ten or fifteen minute stroll along the riverside to the city centre. The rooms are clean. The beds are very comfortable and the breakfast sets us up for the day. Arthur, the owner is a great host and nothing is ever a bother for him. I wouldn’t hesitate in recommending the Clifton Bridge to anyone wanting to stay near York.

The room was clean, and there was tea, coffee, biscuits and bottled water every day, we were there. Breakfast was lovely and the owner couldn't do enough for us, even driving us into the centre of York, we'll definitely be back.,

We were well looked after by Arthur during a four night stay. Bottled water as required & plenty of tea/coffee & biscuits supplied without asking. Off road parking with cctv. A twenty minute river walk into the city. Excellent breakfast.

What a great, clean, friendly place. We were welcomed with a cup of tea as soon as we arrived. That is a service i have never received anywhere I've stayed before. The owner was more than helpful, showed us our rooms. We had a lovely bedroom that slept 3 with our own bathroom. However, the only let down was the shower. The water pressure was none existing, and the water trickled out that I had to stand right under the taps to get washed. Apart from that, the owner and his staff ( breakfast lady ) were lovely, helpful pleasant and friendly. They pointed out the bus service, which is outside their establishment, that runs regularly at £8.00 return into York. There is a pub down the road and a park opposite the B&B. The owner runs it himself. Breakfast was included, and it was well worth it. ? the owner also allowed us to leave our car at his for the day and collect it later even though we had checked out. I would definitely return, as it is also situated in a quiet street.

Lovely hotel, clean and airy and room’s comfortable and clean. Arthur very helpful and even drove us into York. Very enjoyable stay. Breakfast was plentiful, fresh and well cooked with lots of good Yorkshire tea. Also supplies in room were plentiful, didn’t have to ask for replenishment in whole of stay.
