My daughter booked this for my wife,s birthday as she loves dim Sum, there were 11 of us. The service was excellent, friendly ( and very good with the young children ) efficient and helpful. The food was outstanding as good as in top London restaurant or Hong Kong, we really enjoyed it and a little surprised at how good it was. The decor was also very detailed and nicely done. Definitely a must go to place.

Duck in ginger. The small duck pieces were very dry and had the fatty skin on. The sauce was salty and l only tasted one piece of ginger. Would not choose again.

Have been quiet a few time over the year but recently we went and I feel that things have changed and they maybe be cutting corners. Useually I have chicken , chilly and black bean sauce but this time it was bulked up with onions and the black bean sauce was very watery with a different taste to what I’m used to. Going to pay I was disappointed with the cost it has gone up by more £10 to the total bill from our last visit.

If there's a better Chinese Restaurant I don't know of it ! Maxis is amazing - The atmosphere, the lovely friendly staff and most of all THE FOOD !! My wife and I had the Special Lunch for just under £13 each. I had Veg hot and sour soup followed by beef curry with boiled rice. My wife had chicken in blackbean sauce with egg rice all followed by chinese tea. 10 out of 10 for everything and it won't be long before we go back :)

Tasteless, low quality food. Most dishes were bulked up by huge amounts of chopped onion. The satay sauce had never seen a peanut. The only discernable flavour was from chilli powder in the Szechuan chicken. The prices for this awful food are outrageous. Will never return and I don't recommend it to anyone. And what's going on in this business? On a Tuesday night there must have been more than 15 staff just hanging around. Weird, and made us feel uncomfortable.

The servers were nice enough, food came pretty quickly. The food was not great, chicken boiled and unappetising, cost a lot

(Take Away) Not good at all. Chips tasted reheated and cardboard-like and looked grey. The chicken was tough and over-cooked. It was the first time I had tried the food here off the back of a recommendation and I can honestly say there are much much better places at half the cost. The food here just isn't worth the money. A real disappointment.

Absolutely disgusting! Three meals that cost £50 Beef tough as old boots and chicken like packed chicken bits from tescos. Chips were sweaty No veg in chicken curry… I’ve been robbed and I’m still hungry!!!

Great to visit a Chinese restaurant like Maxis, and find it full already at 1pm on a Sunday. Good job we'd booked a table!! We went to have the Dim Sums, and they were fantastic. Prawn n Pork Sui Mai, Char Sui buns, steamed and fried prawn rolls, plus the starters of prawn toast, ribs, spring rolls, satay chicken and prawn wontons....all superb!!

English and Chinese menus, dimsum served till 6pm. Good taste food very generous portions, much better than central town pretentious high land rental places. Ample dining space good atmosphere too.

Very nice Chinese restaurant with excellent customer service. I felt like I was treated as Royalty ?. Visited for my 50th birthday meal with my family. The table service was friendly and professional, they were very cautious about my son's allergy to chicken and nuts. We had a great time, highly recommended ?????

Great place. I Wish everyone could experience authentic Chinese food like this. We were even gifted two desserts at the end of a wonderful yamcha.

Great service and “Old School “ Chinese food in generous quantities. They must do an incredible trade. Hadn’t been there for many years but just as good as I remembered. It’s busy , informal and bustling -popular with large groups who arrive with obvious excitement at what they’re about to experience. It’s brighter , more functional and basic than I remembered . Unfortunately a large family came to sit at a nearby table and they’d brought a xylophone with them for one of their kids. They all played it throughout their meal.

We came for dim sum - dim sum is not easy to come across in York so I was quite looking forward to coming. However, half the dishes were average and the other half sub-par. The fried squid in particular was about as bland and hard going to get through as I can remember. In fact all of the fried dim sums were a bit disappointing, the steamed ones were a little better. Basically, nothing was very flavoursome. The decor is very, very, very heavy on the Chinese theming. The service was fine enough.

Fun restaurant with traditional Chinese decor. Large space that is usually very accommodating for bigger groups, and the fact it is out of town means it’s usually got a table, even if you haven’t booked. Nice food - delivered quickly by efficient staff. I like the fact there’s a lazy Susan on the larger tables meaning that sharing food and passing it along is very easy!
