Called in for Sunday lunch. Ordered the roast beef but unfortunately it was not to our taste as it was too fatty. I know people are different and like their meat cooked in different ways but this to us was inedible. Spoke with the staff who couldn't have been more obliging and changed the beef for pork, which was very tender and an enjoyable meal.

Read lots of reviews saying this used to be great , now you have to order at the bar. What a load of stupid pointless reviews. We stayed here over our anniversary wkd, the bars were wonderful, Guinness amazing, room incredible. Food was really, really good, gastropub very good. If you want Michelin star then fine, the place used to be empty years ago. And the reviews that say you have to order at the bar, those kind of people are better off elsewhere. We’ve met lovely people, friendly dogs, wonderful conversation, and the staff and food could not have been better. Please don’t believe the naysayers talking about how much better it was in the old days. It was also shut for two years, and now has undergone a huge transformation, and is a credit to the new owner.

Best place to come in sunny days for walks and to have a really nice meal. Enjoy and try the experience!

Stayed and ate here years ago, rooms were great, and the food at that time was astonishing, in the Michelin guide at one point. Unfortunately seems to have gone downhill of late. Don't get me wrong, the food is good, but "please order at the bar when you're ready" is not the Black Swan I remember.

Warm, welcoming, and comfortable place to stay. Great food and friendly staff. If you're ever in Helmsley, we would highly recommend visit/stay. If you stay more than one night and care for the environment you can get a nice little bonus ?

Part of the Inn collection group. We have been here 3 times in last 7 months so ye we love it here. Dog friendly rooms (we stayed in a dog friendly superior double) availabe they are a bit dated though. Walk in deals available with an evening meal included. I enjoyed my fish and chips and my wife loved her rump steak, lovely breakfasts. Not much of a selection of ales and they a bit expensive compared to other places in the market place. The staff are polite and helpfull so well done

We went for a family dinner and it didn’t disappoint. Great ambience and a lot of traditional pub food options. It’s a kids friendly place.

Went to the Black Swan for an evening meal. I've got low standards but the food we received was surprisingly bad. The 'warm heritage salad' was a big pile of cold carrots, raw kale and pickled beetroot from a jar. Just a big heap of that on a plate. The children's burger and chips was literally that, a dry burger in a dry bread bun with plain over chips. Nice! You've been warned! The interior was beautiful and the black swan was extremely dog friendly as it had a dog menu!
