I had my two friends staying for the weekend and we decided to go for our evening meal on Saturday here we should of booked but when we got to the bar the bloke said he could have a table for us in 25 mins if we wanted to get a drink which we didGin with lemonade, 5 mins later our table was ready we sat down and all said that our drink didn't taste right when I mentioned it they quickly checked the lemonade and did us all another drink without fuss, our meal didn't take long to come and it was fantastic all cooked to perfection, we couldn't fault this place although we didn't stay here we weren't far away but next time we will try and stay here. Lovely staff nothing was too much trouble. Thank you Angie, Gill & Jan xFood & drinks: Great Food and drinks

Was going to local chain pub across the road but it was so busy, noticed masons arms across the road so headed for it. It was 8.25 pm and last orders for food were 8.30pm , decided to ask. How glad was I , brilliant food and friendly bar staff, probably only cost us a tenner more. So my advice forget that well known chain pub and cross the road to the masons arms.

Went here for family meal. Had a table in quiet corner was ok but was next to the toilets. Does get busy so think best to book. Menu and specials board had good variety of meals. Waitress was nice and friendly. Friendly and welcoming staff. 3 of our table had steaks and all said was really good. Rest of our meals were also good. Table service which is good. Reasonably priced. Dogs are welcome..Nice old pub..

First visited here back in 2009 and the food is just as good as we remembered. A small pub, cosy with a warming fire, best to book for a Saturday. The pie was superb, one of the biggest I've had in a pub with some amazing hand cut chips and only £12.95.Meals were reasonably priced for York. Garlic bread with cheese as a starter was also delicious. My wife had a burger which was home cooked and came with a choice of toppings. The waiting staff were excellent and plenty of staff working as well which makes a change. This is a proper local pub but with a warm welcome. Only negative is that for a free house they have a poor selection of keg beers unless you like the usual Carlsberg Marstons choices like Madri and San Miguel. There are three keg options, two from Black Sheep though. The Guinness was a redeeming feature!

Came across the Mason Arms totally by chance. We were attending York Barbican and called for a drink. A great good old fashioned pub with a bit of character to it. Friendly, helpful staff, food looked to be pretty good, but we had already eaten.
The best place to eat in york, the food was excellent and the staff was great!! One of the best Sunday rost I ever had.Definitely
