I’m thoroughly disappointed by the food service and price. I stopped in here for a quick meal with my family I went to the takeaway counter and got greeted by the rudest man in York he was unapproachable and unhygienic. He put half a table spoon of cheese on my sisters chips which he served with his hand after taking payment of £3.25 extra for a sprinkle of that of cheese if that. The curry sauce was like yellow watery and tasteless thank god there were two big red bins outside because they got chucked straight in there. Avoid at all costs. Disgusting. Should get shut downVegetarian options: Had to pay £3.25 for cheese disgusting

Spend a lot of money here. Never again. Ordered a takeaway. Our genuine mistake ordered to wrong store. York store said tough. Couldn’t re-order to York. Food paid for and uncollected and York store would not help in the slightest. Zero customer service. £25 worth of food paid for and gone uncollected. My older father left with nothing. Manager said ‘it happens five times a day’. Change your website and app then

I am very sorry to say this, but first time we had taste the mighty Yorkshire fish and Chips. Well what a waste of £50,utter disgusting The service was good, why bring bread and butter 5mins before main meal The chips were very good, but the fish was very greasy, the mushy peas were ok l wonder what can they got it from, traditional curry sauce was just a curry sauce, the coleslaw was bland. This was not as we expected from the so called mighty Yorkshire Fish and Chips we will try another place when next up North. It left us with a very bad taste in are mouth.Pricewise that certainly pinched the wallet. The atmosphere reminded me of a care home, because the rest of the customers were there for the OAP special Never again there

Whilst staying in York for business purposes I decided to try the Wetherby Whaler and see what all the fuss is about.Only a short walk from the Premier Inn and opted for take out.I decided on Haddock, chips and mushy peas.I did enquire if they leave the skin on (as some places do not skin haddock) and they told me no skin - so that’s a huge plus! Not much of a wait so was pleasantly surprised at the quick turnaround for the food to be ready.First glance at the fish it appeared to be crispy batter and once breaking into it, the fish was really good chunks of meat and not the usual flat and thin you can get at some locations. The batter had a nice taste to it too and was not in the leathery but bland and tasteless. The chips were done to perfection with the right amount of crispness and fluffy softness inside - just what a fish and chip shop should provide. The mushy peas also done to perfection and not fluorescent green to be seen from space.Overall a right nice fish chips and mushy peas dinner!Sorry the photos look half eaten. It’s because I couldn’t wait!

Myself and my family were delighted with the quality and quantity of the food we ordered. The service was also very good. Also, standard is a cup of Yorkshire tea with fish and chips, what joy!!!

Great food and great service. I had the pensioner special, £15.95 for three courses is great value! Well worth a visit.

Very nice evening at the Wetherby Whaler. This establishment was very busy on arrival. The small car park was full. There was quite a big queue but went down quickly due to staff efficiency. The order came quickly but they got a couple of things muddled up but the correct order came back quickly with no stress from the waitress. I had a very nice scampi and chips followed by ice cream which filled me right to the top. The bill for the 5 of us was just under £100 which wasn't too bad as we all had 3 courses. I will definitely be back again. Well done.

What an amazing fish restaurant. If you like haddock try the whaler. It is the biggest plate of fish and chips you will ever get! See the picture I,m not kidding ot is huge. Great place for outing or couples or just on your own. The service is fantastic and the staff are so nice to everyone.Parking: Usually plenty of free parking spotsKid-friendliness: Kid friendly restaurant and kids menu is available.Wheelchair accessibility: Located on ground floor double entrance doors so assistance is possibly better to get in both doors are doubles.

A clean and comfortable table service fish restaurant. It has a slightly old-fashioned atmosphere but there is nothing such in the greeting or the service. I ordered a large haddock with BB and a pot of T and some bread. Delivered piping hot and in good time it was delicious. I will definitely go againParking: Close with options: no problem.

Wetherby whaler has been part of my life since childhood. I can understand that the fish portion varies in size and price and just about accept that the tiny portion of chips may be driven by potato prices but somethings just not right about restaurant fish and chips for £14 that doesn’t come with bread and butter! It’s part of the meal. At 30p for thin poor quality bread too. Such a shame…. Just charge £14.50 and make it a complete meal! Quality standard of food good though. York restaurant a bit tired, we had to change chairs because the seat bases had collapsed and the benches were covered in the previous customers residual food. Hope it’s better next time.

Excellent Seniors specials. I had haddock and my wife had scampi as main course. Starters and puddings were excellent. Well worth the money Food was served by friendly helpful staff. Well worth a visit.

We usually have takeaway but decided to try the restaurant. We weren't disappointed there were plenty of free tables. Service was fabulous as was the food. Credit to the server who checked if we wanted beer from the fridge or not.
