A good restaurant with good dishes and great red meat. Pleasant service and good cocktails. The value for money is there. On a weekend in York with my father, we booked 48 hours in advance and really enjoyed it.Dietary restrictions: The property asks if there are any allergies

Fantastic Sunday lunch. The roast beef was done to perfection, soft and tender literally melted in your mouth. Accompanied by tasty gravy, good selection of vegetables and famous Yorkshire pudding . Excellent and friendly service. I recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting York.

For some reason this place is not on any list of recommendations, quietly hidden away of the beaten track. Been working and eating (!) for 3 months now in York, best meal so farlovely glass of Shiraz....then Focaccia...Followed by pan roast stonebass in berbere butter, creamed celeriac, charred cavolo nero, crispy mussels, and picked chiliHad to be done finished off with Black Forest Tart..chocolate, cherries, Chantilly cream with Ximinez Sherry

We went for a Sunday Roast and I can say they have the best Yorkshire pudding in York, and the gravy was delicious. 100% recommendable.

We went for sunday roast last week for my husbands birthday after trying to book for a long time due to its popularity. We ordered 4 beef roasts. The food arrived and we couldnt believe the small amount of food that came. 1 yorkshire pud, 3 tiny pieces of beef, 2 little roast potatoes and 1 slither of carrot. A very small dish of red cabbage and cauliflower cheese, between 4 people, with no serving spoons. We asked for 2 spoons and extra gravy for us all. 1 spoon was thrown onto the table and a tiny ladle of gravy for 4 of us. A young female staff member, asked how our food was and we replied it was average. She laughed and walked away. She came back and asked if we wanted desserts, i said we were dissappionted and would rather not, but as this was 2 coarses for a set amount, how much would she reduce this by? she said that wasnt possible. I said i wasnt happy. Eventually, she came back and said she would take off the price of the desserts. Dont waste your money on this place, we walked away hungry and will never go here again. What i thought would be a lovely experience was just another rip off and a birthday treat, that was totally over rated

Very attentive and friendly staff, they have a genuineness that is too rarely found in many hospitality venues.Good is very high quality and extremely tasty.Definitely visiting again
BIG burger - excellent. Cooked exactly as I asked. Retired dairy cows so good flavour. Crispy skinny fries were top drawer.Maple panna cotta was a tasty little sweet treat for afters.

Came here for mine and my partner’s anniversary, the meal it’s self was delicious however the services was subpar at best. The weather that day was on the rainy side. We arrived at the restaurant to be greeted with some to say the least that clearly does not enjoy there job. Then was seated promptly after having to put are wet coats on the back of are chairs. Every other customer that came in after had there coats and umbrellas taken from them and stored. The waitress her self services was very poor and attitude a like. The only good part was the food it’s self. Good size and good taste. I would recommend eating the food but only if you could take it away as the service is not what you think should be for this calibre of food.

Everything was excellent. Three roast beef dinners and one vegetarian wellington. Meat super tender. Have visited a few times now and will definitely be back.

We had a delicious meal here on Valentine's evening. Everything we ate tasted beautiful; scallops, burger, steak and onion rings. The wine accompanying our food was also delicious. The friendly staff asked if we had any questions about the food and the service was excellent - helpful and attentive but not overbearing. We have been to The Whippet four times now and will continue to eat here. Everything is always to the highest standard.
