Good food and portion size, service varied but was generally good. Breakfast was good quality and plentiful but the pancake machine was only available on one day. Drinks were expensive but overall a good option if you choose a half board package at the hotel.

Very disappointed. I ordered the pea and mint risotto which was basically boiled rice with a sauce, petite pois peas with a slight hint of mint. The consistency did not resemble a risotto at all. It was very over priced for what I received. The drinks were not great either. The staff however were friendly and accommodating. My 2 star rating was for the food and not the staff which I would give 5 stars

Decent grub for a Hotel Restaurant.

Food was expensive and I didn't feel up to the price. Would not go out of my way to visit again, but would go if someone else was paying.

Tower's Restaurant is the main restauraunt serving the Hilton York, it also includes a bar area, and an american diner called Applejacks which is only open at weekends. I dined here, despite staying at the Doubletree by Hilton York after being impressed with the menu, location opposite the castle and the fact they offer a 50% discount through Tastecard - it is worth noting they do add 8.5% onto your bill before applying the discount as service charge. For example: A bill is £100 £8.50 will be added £50 is the tastecard discount You pay £58.50 I'm not sure how it works with larger amounts, I just used a '£100' bill to avoid dealing with demon decimals. Inside, the restauraunt feels a little cheap and old fashioned, it doesn't feel like a Hilton at all, it feels more like a lower-class pub for example with a small television, where they do show sports according to a sign. The menu selection was okay, it did have gluten free bread which I was looking for - The selection of sandwiches were slightly more sophisticated than the ham/cheese or tuna mayo I was looking for - I opted for smoked salmon with cream cheese and cucumber so before any discount or service charge this came to £9.50 with chips. After original confusion, I was told the chips were gluten free - they did taste fresh but they were dry and extremley bland (obviously hadn't been seasoned!) and at times hard. The quality of my sandwich also was poor, with a bad cut of salmon which I found to be too thick and had too much skin, also effecting the taste quality. The bread was fresh but even this couldn't save my sandwich. I was shocked to be charged the service charge as it didn't appear to be stated clearly and of course 8.5% is an unusual figure. Good quality bread and reasonably priced after the discount, with my friend enjoying her fish and chips but still a restaurant far from excellent. 2 stars.
