Dined here as a family this evening, in many aspects an above average restaurant, tasty starters we had were onion soup, Caesar salad and warm focaccia bread with dips. Our mains included pork belly, ribeye steak and burger, our desserts were chocolate cake and a cheese board. All tasty, well cooked, extremely well presented and fairly priced. Would normally be awarding four stars but all five scored due to one reason, the impeccable, professional Vic who runs this bistro with unmatched levels of attention to detail, unrivalled customer care levels and a general efficiency mixed with friendliness which is hard to find in the hospitality sector. He really represents the Stormont Hotel supremely well.

My husband and I visited recently and we were very impressed with the menu. We were taken care of extremely well by Vic and Ryan. Our food came quickly, even though the restaurant was busy, and it was amazing! Hats off to the chef! Will recommend, and we will definitely be back

We were staying in the hotel for few days for our anniversary. We had a beautiful meal om our last night. We were served by a lovely young girl , who's first day it was, she was very punctual and accomadating with any queries we had.My husband ordered Lamb Shank for mains, and myself the Chicken supreme. Both meals were absolutely insanely delicious . As my husband is a fussy eater choosing a good cooked lamb or steak meal can be hard to find. But oh my goodness.... what a perfections, shank just fell of the bone, and the chicken was lovely and tender. Highly recommend.I cannot say or thank the staff enough in this restaurant, the girls and Vic really made us feel welcoming, and accomadating.Best meal we've had in a long long time. Thanks guys,Well definitely be back.Amanda and James x

Came for an anniversary dinner. It wasn't too busy so service was nice and quick. Had fish cakes to start which were lovely followed by the lamb shank, which was absolutely beautiful and done to perfection. Vick and his staff were very nice and it's a beautiful place to dine

We came for a delicious Friday night date night to unwind after a busy work week. We started in the cosy bar area sharing a bottle of prosecco by the warmth of the wood burning fire listening to the relaxing music. The atmosphere was very inviting and the perfect start to the weekend. Following that we went for a meal in La Scala restaurant. We started on a maple glazed pork belly and goats cheese salad, the pork belly was rich in flavour and cooked perfectly. The salad was crunchy with the perfect balance of goats cheese both crispy and creamy. To follow we had an exquisite fall off the bone lamb shank with fresh vegetables and buttery potatoes. The meat was so soft and cooked to the highest standard. My partner had the sweet cured pork chop which was a very thick cut of meat that was cooked perfectly, which is hard to do with pork and was so impressed at the balance of maple flavour with the salty pork. Alongside that we had the crispy onion rings which were crunchy and the perfect mix of indulgence to accompany our meal. Our host for the night David was a very friendly member of staff who gave his recommendations on the menu and was very knowledgeable about everything, he took his time to advise us on the upcoming events of the Stormont hotel and made us feel very welcome. Overall our time at La Scala was very impressive, we thoroughly enjoyed our night out here and would recommend to anyone wanting a relaxing, comforting and enjoyable meal out.

My girlfriend and I went for an impromptu evening out to La Scala for dinner. We were instantly met by incredibly helpful and friendly staff from our server David. I had the Pork Belly to start and the lamb as a main. Both dishes were delicious. The lamb fell right off the bone and the pork belly was delicious. My girlfriend ordered the goats cheese fritters and the pork chop which was the highlight with a creamy mustard sauce that was amazing. The drinks were reasonable and the desert we shared was lovely too. The place had a lovely ambiance with a very chilled boogie feel to the whole restaurant. Will definitely be back.

After my last visit, I never thought I would visit again. However, the head waiter was very friendly, very well trained as were the two little waitresses who were attending the tables. The menu was fairly good for a Bistro. I was there with my long suffering better half and her cousin. I asked for a bottle of wine from the list, a very nice white at a fair price. My wife had the Ceasar salad which she stated delicious, I had the pork belly a personal fav, it was nicely presented if a little hard. My wife had the chicken supreme with she declared delicious, our guest had the hake which she said was also delicious, however I opted for the lamb shank (a mistake) I have never seen such a small lamb shank in my life, the very little lamb must have been very ill. However with a bit of poking I managed to extract a few pieces of the lamb that was actually eatable, the remaining 70% was hard, overcooked and impervious to my knife. I did point this out to the waitress who said she would inform the chef, (no response whatever). Still onwards and upwards, I lifted the bottle of wine out of the wine cooler, it promptly slipped from my hands shattered my wine glass and caused a round of applause, which I , acknowledged. I would point out that the wine bottle was very wet. However the mess was cleaned up promptly and I was assured that it happened. I was more annoyed about the spilled wine (it wasn't cheap). We then had desert, my wife had a very good creme brulee, I had the rum soaked pineapple tartan, I do like tartan, no this was a very nice tasting thin layer of pastry, not the usual puff pastry and some sort of thin very liquid squidge underneath. It was nice, tasted good, but what it was not a tartan. I am sad to say that the food was like the priest's apple (good in parts). I will of course not be back. By the by announcing the bill amount quite loudly was annoyance which was uncalled for. Never again.

Having being told no need to book at reception the arrogant staff in the bistro wouldn’t even talk to us after we tried to explain. Just walked away saying 8pm first availability. 45 mins away. We are in a 5.15am flight and wanted to eat, hence having asked at check in if we needed to book. Rude and poor.

The staff here are not friendly and spoke sharply to us upon entering. The tables beside us were left dirty during our entire meal. We didn't feel that the atmosphere was relaxing at all, we just wanted to eat and leave as soon as possible.

On a visit back to Belfast, my husband and I treated ourselves to a meal at La Scala where we have dined many times before. After a brisk walk from my childhood home in Dundonald, we had worked up a healthy appetite. We were welcomed and seated promptly, and our drinks came while we perused the menu. It was nice to get a big jug of tap water without having to ask. The starters of pork belly with a chorizo 'tapenade' and chicken liver parfait on brioche were very tasty, although my husband would have preferred a slightly less moussey texture to the parfait. Mains of pan-fried sea bass with a curried coconut sauce and pak choi, and chicken supreme with rosti potato and greens were delicious: we both thought that there must be a new chef, or a newly inspired one, as the quality of the cooking had definitely gone up a notch since our previous meal there. The only thing I would have changed would have been a slightly thinner rosti (sacrilege to say this, I know, in a place of high quality spuds!): portion sizes always defeat us a little back in NI! Service was spot on, with friendly staff. We didn't have space for pudding (a smaller rosti might have made more room). A large chunk of the bill was for our drinks, so the food was good value. We will definitely return.
