Great restaurant, great service

After not having returned for a year due to the service I decided to give it another shot. So wish I hadnt, rushed to order. Son never even got his starter finished while they were lifting ours. Main course was brought to table while he was finishing his starter. 3 times they came to lift main plates, in the end my son eat his steak & left both his sides. I had to lift cutlery from table beside me to eat main course as only 1 set to eat 2 courses. Didnt even get a breather before the desert menu was on us. Son decided against a deserrt he said he probably wouldnt get it finished before they wanted our table back. It was between Viscounts & Claret Jug so wish we had choosen our usual Viscounts, definitely will not be back again, such a pity as the food was nice although portions small, chicken stack wasnot an adult meal for sure?

Really lovely food and reasonably priced unlike a lot of places in the town. I had salted chilli chicken for starter, chicken supreme for main and sticky toffee for dessert. Friendly staff. Very accommodating.

I have only good things to say about The Claret Jug.Food was delicious.Staff were excellent.Price was very fair.Loved being able to relax and enjoy lunch.Fantastic location with a view!A great wee spot that I cant wait to go back to.

Very little would have turned an average lunch into a good lunch - we had the cod and chips - the cod itself was good quality though small but had been deep fried in dirty oil - we also had the tempura chicken and same applied the chicken was good but the batter was soggy and greasy and brown due to dirty oil. Tempura should be light and non greasy and it wasn’t either. The salad with the tempura was good and the sides were good but cod came out on a bare plate where a little salad leaves on the side would have been good - disappointing
