A top notch hotel that has everything. Huge rooms, in room coffee, comfortable bedding, great large flat screen tv, modern, great staff. My wife and I really enjoyed staying at this hotel. Clearly, the best we stayed at while in Ireland. The buffet breakfast was outstanding. This hotel is a winner.

This hotel is old and dated. There was no air conditioning, but we had a fan in our room. The room was a decent size, but the bed was small and the pillows were flat. There were cob webs in the corner of the room and a big layer of dust on the cords behind the tv. Electrical out lets are lacking . There were only 2 in our room and none beside the bed. We ate in the restaurant and it was fair at best. I would not recommend this hotel. This is the fist hotel in our 10 day trip around Ireland, that was not great.

Went with 4 friends we are older ladies and have to say we had no complaints , food beautiful, clean hotel , beds was so comfortable friendliness people you could meet, shopping all near so not a lot of walking which suited us, bar staff and restaurant staff very pleasant and helpful, our waiter was polite loved the way he carried his tray on one finger and hand behind back talking point for us, would definitely go back thank you City Hotel

Comfortable rooms , great that we got there in time for the free parking, however there is a multistory carpark next door. Location for sightseeing is good and all the staff were very helpful Shame rooftop bar not open, not mentioned on website

The vibe from the hotel was great. The staff were really friendly and made you feel at home. The upgrade to one of the suites on the 7th floor was worth it! More comfort than you can imagine, definitely worth it! Located perfect too!

We had a fabulous evening at The hotel. We met friends for ore-dinner drinks in the lounge bar followed by an amazing meal in the hotel’s restaurant. The service and food was superb - we all had something different and our food was served with style and importantly all at same time. Big thank you to the Manager, Paul and his team for a memorable evening ?

We last stayed here 15 years ago and had remembered it as not particularly luxurious, but clean, bright and comfortable. I would suggest that the hotel has not been touched in anyway in those 15 years. It is very central which is a plus point, and I cannot fault the staff who were without exception friendly and helpful, but the hotel is in dire need of updating. Double beds in the rooms are small doubles, so we ended up swapping to a family room for the extra space. There is no air-con working on any of the rooms - cooling is via fans, which was ok, but still quite stuffy and we had to have windows open. Our view was over a roof which was littered with vapes - & randomly an eyelash curler and pairs of dirty socks! We had planned to eat in the hotel the first night as had had an early start, but really felt the need to escape in the end - I’d recommend The Exchange over the road. I ate on my own for breakfast on our last morning and was very pleased we had not chosen to eat our dinner there! Am told the food is good, but it’s not cheap. The restaurant was more run down than the rest of the hotel - worn and ripped cha and all very dated. Breakfast was fine - a little disappointed by the choice. Scrambled eggs only (room service breakfast offers fried, scrambled or poached so not sure why this can’t also be offered in the restaurant?) Rest of food offered was basic and pretty uninspiring, but all ‘fine’. We visit Derry to see family, and wanted to be central but overall unless there is a Refurb we would probably choose another hotel next time. I feel the description of being ‘contemporary’ to be pretty disingenuous! Would reiterate a 10/10 for the young but very friendly employees though!

Second visit. Good hotel in some ways, Central, entertainment at weekend but many details need visited. Firstly, there are way too many 'deals'. Very confusing. This needs streamlined a bit better. Many chairs in the restaurant were threadbare, very unappealing. Too many very young staff with seemingly little customer service experience or problem solving experience . The restaurant on the Friday night when we went for dinner, was not busy. We were a party of 14 adults. We waited an hour for starters which were mainly salad or soup. A young waitress who took our order, came back to one of our party to advice there was no veg soup left, it would be tomato and coriander. This person was happy with the substitute but the waitress failed to ask the rest of the party, she obviously thought yes for one person was a yes for all. Some did not like the substitution. The main courses were all mixed up, one party member was finished before her sides came, one member was still waiting on his main course when most of us were finished our meal. By the way, overall, the food was beautiful and approximately £50 was taken of our bill to cover supplements. At breakfast, the layout of the toaster, tea and coffee and the main door to the kitchen for staff was too cramped and it felt like a bit of a dodge about to ensure I didn't knock into someone. As the queue backed up waiting for toast (that needed to go in 3 times), chaos reigned for those trying to get drinks and staff trying to squeeze past with arms full of dishes. The selection was either scrambled eggs or fried eggs not both each morning. On the Sunday morning, unsurprisingly there was a 'crash' of dishes. One of our party had paid for a stay that included 2 evening meals but following the Friday evening escapade, we were definitely not eating in the restaurant the 2nd night. She asked to speak to someone re this in a bid to have this amount (meal) removed from her bill. Several conversations pursued over the weekend but under no circumstances was a reduced monetary stay for her offered. Instead, drinks, wine, chocolate left in her room, she couldn't avail of any of this as she was flying home to Southampton from Belfast and couldn't take it with her!! The word had seemed to have spread around the staff in the restaurant that we had complained as 4 of us, including the couple who were asking for a reduction, decided to use the restaurant just for a burger each. The attitude of the young gentleman on duty was very smug and offhand. Not nice. Still waiting on the sauce he went to get for my hubby. Anyway, sadly, we won't be back. On our way home, we went into the Ponderosa. The place was very busy. Now! There's a place where everything, from start to finish, went so well, staff were attentive, quick, pleasant, shared conversation, they were young but very well trained indeed. Food was amazing and wasn't expensive at all. Make this you're go to place if you pass it going home. No comparison to the City Hotel.
