You will not leave here still hungry. Fill your boots

If you like a big feed, this is the place for you. Huge portion sizes. The farmers around Newry expect that when they go out. By choosing the restaurant rather than the carvery, I thought we'd get more of a fine dining experience for the family reunion - especially for the prices. Not so unfortunately. I asked for my lamb rack cooked medium. It came well done. My mother looked forward to banana and pineapple with the chicken Maryland. All she got was the chicken. Some sort of kitchen language miscommunication apparently. Staff worked hard and were friendly though, so it's worth a visit - if you like a big feed.

Someone wrote a review about the portions being very small so me and my girlfriend went by that review and got a starter. She got garlic bread and I got chicken goujons. Then plates filled a spot so we were excited for the mains. I had gotten the Sirloin with Chips while she got the chicken Maryland with champ. I can’t stress this enough, the portions were huge. Not too huge but huge enough to make you partly regret the starter. The meal couldn’t have been any nicer, honestly. And all in all came to around £80 so it was priced just right. Will definitely be back for another go at the steak!

Food was very good, service was also good with regards to the food. Drinks service was slow though. Tables were well spaced with respect to Covid regulations. Staff were polite and attentive. Worth a visit.

Went to the old mill restaurant for a family event (holy communion). 5 adults and 1 child . Can't fault the service even though a little bit more of wait than normal but understandable so because of current situation. Waiting staff were great and a lovely touch of a card for the communion child . The food we got was lovely and very tasty . My only issue was the portions . We decided not to have starters as wanted to enjoy the meal . Meal portions were meagher to say the least . Steak was presented with 2 onion rings on top and a tiny bowel of chips (about 6 in total). The chicken was a small chicken breast on top of a spoon of mash and 2 slices of carrot , with a drizzle of gravey. No extra veg or potatoes offered . So dissapointing for the price . Went home still hungry and ended up ordering a domino's pizza . At nearly £200 seemed a lot . There was about 2 rounds of drink on that but some were only soft drinks . As said earlier service and taste of food was great just portion size was disappointing. With things the way they are at the moment i wouldn't waste a night out here again . I would try somewhere different . Veg and potatoes aren't the most expensive part of the meal . So come on Canal Court listen to your customers . Probaly would have stayed on longer but was disappointed so just wanted to go home . Little boy (communion boy) had a great day and didn't want to take away from that .

This was my 2nd visit to the old mill for dinner, and this time loads of positives, as always the staff are exceptional here, and this was no different, after munching through my lovely fresh bread and butter, my squid starter was exceptional, one of the best for quite a while, while my main of chicken supreme was a good portion of chicken, with a fondant potato and asparagus with a nice sauce, very tasty, a 500 mil carafe of house wine was enjoyed and the bill was £21 for 2 courses and £12.50 for the wine. As they only offer the table d’hôte menu on certain nights perhaps a few specials might help, as I was not tempted back for another night during my stay, as the menu was the same as in December when I last stayed.
