My prior experiences at this café were nothing short of splendid—a bright, open space adorned with greenery, delightful ornaments, and a counter brimming with tempting cakes, pastries, and beverages. It used to exude warmth and welcome, making it, at that time, the cream of the crop in Mansfield. However, My recent breakfast escapade unfolded quite differently. Walking in, the once lively space felt desolate, stripped of its former charm—no ornaments, no goodies on the shelves, not even a whisper of the delectable drinks under the counter. The place seemed to have taken a bizarre turn, leaving me wondering if it had changed hands. Surprisingly, it hadn't—the same familiar faces were still at the helm.Despite the stark transformation, I chose to give it the benefit of the doubt and ordered a substantial breakfast accompanied by a double espresso and an Americano. While observing the morning crowd, mostly the elder bunch, the café felt oddly cold and devoid of its former character. It now appeared to serve only food from the kitchen, leaving nothing on display. The coffee experience was lackluster—grainy, weak, and clouded espressos and Americanos that tasted no different, signaling a dire need for the coffee machine's TLC. Then came the breakfast spread—the sight of soggy black mushrooms, sausages that seemed quite unfamiliar with the concept of pork, and beans boasting an odd off-orange hue, screaming "budget."The tasting journey was an adventure—the sausages a confusing, cereal-like texture with an identity crisis, mushrooms bidding farewell to their prime, tough bacon (but it did its job of tasting like bacon!), and black pudding providing texture but lacking in taste. Beans seemed to have picked up a metallic tune, while plump tomatoes and a nearly perfect egg saved the morning! In sum, the breakfast contributed to the overall desolation of the establishment—a disappointment, to say the least. My intention behind such reviews is to foster improvement, urging them to reclaim their former glory or reassess their offerings. After all, consistent quality is paramount—customers shouldn't have to sacrifice time, money, or effort for anything less.

Always welcoming and - I think - the nicest hot chocolate.

Breakfast stops at 11.00 and really didn't fancy any of the mediocre offerings on the menu so walked out and found somewhere else.

Went here for some lunch, not been to Mansfield before walked past Lucy’s and it looked nice so wondered in. Felt a bit empty and dreary but went to sit down the only 4 seater table had a reserved sign on it and the rest were 2 seaters (there was 3 of us). Turned around and the waitress said we can sit there regardless of the reserved sign. Firstly noticed the tables were VERY sticky and another couple in the cafe commented on this as in unappealing. No menus on the table all the food was on some chalk boards on the wall, not a lot of food options at all. As soon as we sat down the waitress awkwardly asked to take our order even though we hadn’t even looked at menus yet. We quickly ordered, was disappointed to find out they offer no alternative milk so my friend with a dairy allergy couldn’t have any hot drinks. Ordered a jacket potato with chilli and cheese, there was barely any cheese on it so I asked for some more politely to which I got told by the waitress the boss has said I need to pay 85p extra for cheese and that they did put some on but it’s just melted so you can’t see it. I challenged her as there was barely any cheese on it to start with, but she didn’t say anything and the whole conversation was very uncomfortable so I just said never mind. After this the waitress went straight into the back clearly to tell the boss what I said and then the boss the waitress and another guy all came and stood behind the bar and basically was side eyeing me throughout the rest of my meal. The whole experience was very uncomfortable and to top it off there were bits floating in my coffee (not very clear pic attached) tried to stir them to get them to dissolve but more jest kept appearing so didn’t finish it. As I was paying I just felt like I was being stared at and judged all for asking for a bit more cheese. Under no circumstances will me or my friends return here again.

It’s been years since I last went to Lucy’s and it always used to be amazing. However. I went last week and it seems so have lost its sparkle. There was no menus on the table, all on a black board. Wasn’t a large selection. The coffee was very weak and tasted burnt. Jacket potato was lovely however came with a tiny amount of side salad which was a shame. Service was quick, felt a little rushed to order though. Shame as this used to be a gem! Possibly under new ownership?

Not been here in years ! So poss new owners ?? Jacket potatoes are still very good . Felt a bit rushed to order, yet on 3 other tables filled . It’s a bit soulless , needs a bit of warmth adding to the place . Very basic . Shame really . Coffee was weak and seemed cheap ! Sorry

Visiting Mansfield for first time in many years due to a recent family bereavement, and found Lucy’s cafe very close to the bus station. Staff were really friendly, and nice welcoming feeling. Had a couple of really nice coffees, and some breakfast, all of which were lovely. Service was friendly and welcoming. Stopped by the following weekend when visiting again and will do so again when I’m next in town visiting my grandma.

Had a lovely lunch today with a friendly service. Husband loved the coffee and was plenty of space for our baby's pushchair. May have a new favourite cafe!

Always enjoy going to Lucy's cafe. The staff are friendly. Food is delicious. In my view Lucy's cafe is the best independent cafe in Mansfield town centre. Good location. They have won local business awards on a handful of occasions over the last 10 years.
