Booked a table for 10 of us for a birthday dinner for my Dad. We were absolutely blown away by the food! The beer crackers were incredible. The duck pops were amazing. My partner had the pie which was the most ingenious pie we've ever seen. I had the burger which was delicious. Zero complaints and all beautifully presented and with fantastic service. We can't wait to go back.

Lovely venue and the chef made a great effort with our breakfasts but the whole experience was made poor by the attitude of the waitress. We could hardly understand a word, spoke very broken English, she was very aggressive. When I had to use the gents it was quite degrading, I had to get the waitress attention as there was no toilet paper - she said she was too busy, and even told a potential customer who walked in (about 9am) she was too busy to serve him. When I tried to wash up as a result of no toilet paper, there was no soap either, went to inform her again and she said "Told you, very busy ok!" Have been before when the manager was serving or other more helpful staff, in the end I took some napkins off the bar as my son wished to use the loo, and she seen me take them and snapped "Sir, don't take too many them! They bar!". Will not be coming back when she is on shift again unless she gets some training in customer service and manners. The manager is the boss and he had enough modesty to help us with any queries.

Review is for the restaurant. Service was brilliant, very kind and attentive. All the food was delicious, and the passion fruit pastilles a very inventive idea that definitely worked. Great value also.

I was looking forward to going to the Black Bull for food to celebrate my birthday. However I was left disappointed as was my wife as the food we had wasn't very good. The dessert I had summed it up really, which was ment to be a mint choc vienetta but when it came out it was a frozen square, which u would of needed a hammer and chizel to break up.The starter and main course were acceptable however a little underwhelming.Overall very disappointed after looking forward to going for a while.

The front of the pub was beautifully presented but it is a struggle to find any suitable parking should the 5-6 spaces infront of the pub is taken. The neighbouring pubs all had a dedicated car park so it’s a little off putting. There’s supposed to be an overspill car park but we certainly couldn’t see one. The interiors of the dining space was very well renovated, politely modern with the duck egg green half panels across the walls and the rustic wooden beams in the ceiling. The tables were all beautifully mismatching coupled with plump fabric seating. The serving staff were welcoming and took us to our prebooked table where menus were waiting on the table. I was a little sad to see the menu didn’t match the one on their website (I was quite looking forward to the pigs head croquettes!). We came with empty stomachs for the highly anticipated AA rosette food and left with stomachs fairly full but maybe a little less fulfilled than we hoped. We shared a hog roast sausage roll for a starter and had a tiramisu dessert on top which we usually seldom have room for after a good Sunday lunch. We both opted for the lamb and asked for the shared starter to arrive with the mains but this didn’t happen - I could hear my server’s discontent with the kitchen as she had dutifully informed them it should’ve come out at the same time. Despite that, the mains arrived just as we finished the delicious sausage roll and we were presented with a aesthetically pleasing arrangement of items. It did raise an eyebrow to us that the lamb was sliced in the same way a duck breast would be plated and despite being told it would be served pink, it was more on the well done side. We found it unusual for a whole onion to be found on our plate but it was well cooked and tasted good. Some may find the chef to be stingy with only two roast potatoes in sight but personally this was perfect for me since the plate also had a small dollop of clotted cream mash potatoes. The seasonal greens were satisfying julienned and I also liked how the Yorkshire pudding wasn’t a giant heap of mess but structured and well sized. The glazed carrot was also cooked well and tasted lovely. Strangely, the star of the show was in fact the stuffing instead of the main protein. Don’t get me wrong, the lamb was well seasoned and tasted well but the duck-breast style cut of it made it difficult to eat with normal serving cutlery, wishing we had sharper knifes. The stuffing was perfectly cuboid and held its structure yet a gentle cut would provide a nice slice of a complex taste profile. My only regret was the gravy. I had hoped it would pack a punch of flavours from one of the proteins they had on offer but it offered very little to be desired. It was just a bit bland and with no table salt in sight, we used it as a lubricant to marry all the items on the plate rather than for taste. Overall, we had an enjoyable Sunday lunch in a warm well kept pub to get a respite from the cold with welcoming staff who greeted us well and also pleasantly bid us farewell. Perhaps we held a little too high of expectation but should you be searching for the perfect Sunday lunch, it might be worth exploring elsewhere.
