The staff spike girls drinks. You know who you are

I worked an 8.5 hour unpaid trial shift. Prior to working the shift no information was negotiated on how long I was expected to work, what to wear etc.Myself and 2 new girls had training from a girl who had worked there for a week at that point. I was placed on the cocktail bar and expected to make £14 cocktails for people (in a champagne flute) with no experience in making cocktails and no one demonstrating what I should be doing.Behind the scenes were filthy, the three of us were expected to clean down stairs and upstairs which were literally grim. There was grime around everything, and the sinks downstairs behind the bar looked as though they had never ever been cleaned. While we were working, there was no supervisor or additional member of staff supporting the 4 of us who had little knowledge of the premises, yet alone how to run the operations. Meanwhile, management sat having a 'meeting' on the main floor with cocktails not even caring what we did.The toilets were disgusting as staff aren't required to clean them, I don't even think the bathtub gets cleaned ever. One of the girls who had a trial shift cut their faces open and the business did not even have a legal 'First Aid Book' instead it was a diary from what looked like Wilko with just a name and address in it.Before the end of our shift, we were all told we would hear off the management as to whether we had the job, then they all left and went home. We were all expected to lock the premises at the end of the night, and did not receive a break on the shift, given the hours we worked.I know of at least 5 people I have met at university who have had a trial shift here which again is unpaid, and a similar experience to mine. The Lacehouse always advertise available job vacancies and I believe it's as they 'interview people', then get them in for a long trial shift, and say they will get back to them. Therefore, they aren't paying staff.Overall, I don't advise visiting. They use social media influencers to advertise the business, yet fail to actually run it legally.

Absolutely vile! Pizza was awful! Service was so so poor. Not table service which you think it would be for bottomless brunch! The toilets are disgusting, there so dirty, no toilet seats poo and sick in all the toilets bar one. No hand soap. The place is so dirty and run down. Do not waste your money, so dirty and sort a poor service!

My husband and I visited from Somerset and booked a table for brunch for my birthday, we were slightly skeptical when they had called us at 10pm and 5/6am to tell us they had to push the booking back a few hours. When we turned up and realized 1 man had been left to cook pizzas, make cocktails and do table service all on his own, coming from a hospitality background, we could completely empathize. This man deserves a medal. 5 stars simply because of the manager Rob. After clearly experiencing a staffing problem he ran that place single handedly when most places would have closed. I can not compliment this lovely Geordie man enough, I hope that they finally find the right bar team to back him up because he's a legend.Stuff happens, nothings ever perfect but how Rob dealt with the situation earns him 5 stars.

Nipped in expecting a quick meal before we got on the road. We were served some of the best gluten free pizza we have ever had. Staff were friendly helpful and cheerful. Really absolutely exceptional. A gem

Great back in pre-covid days. Now run down. Shockingly expensive. £8.50 for half pint and a zero alcohol bottle of Heineken. Short staffed. Very rough around the edges. Toilets unfit for humans.

FOR ANYONE LOOKING TO WORK HEREIf you get some trial shifts here, be forewarned that they most likely won't hire you, they just love to squeeze free labour out of anyone stupid enough to apply for a job here (myself included). The pay just about scrapes minimum and the delegation of work will be based around how good you are at flirting (debasing yourself) with the managers/customers. The words I (and many others) would use to describe the owner are not 'internet-friendly', but I will say he is a manipulative man-child who will have you second guessing your own instinct for massive, waving red flags, but the minute you show an awareness to what you're entitled to, his hideous and most honest self will come to light. There is no HR department in hell. DON'T BE DUMB!

Staff were lovely and gave us free drinks because we were let in a little later than expected. Food was so good and cooked in front of you. Very nice place, 10/10.

OMG!!!!! visited last night, the food was awful, I thought this was awarded the best pizza restaurant 3 years running, or so it says on their website. The pizza was burnt to a cinder, even my dog would have turned it down. Cocktails were watered down and tasteless. We complained and asked for a refund which was declined by the smarmy manager who has little man syndrome. Won't be visiting again and I suggest if you want a decent pizza and cocktail night go somewhere else or stay home atleast you know what your drinking then. If I could of gave the lacehouse zero stars I would have.

DO NOT BUY A "CLUB NIGHT" TICKET THIS IS NOT A CLUB/THEY ARE SCAMMERS - A group of us went for my 21st birthday last weekend and each bought a ticket for £55, the place was empty, there was not bouncers, no one on the door, why advertise as a club and sell tickets when that is not hat you are. We spoke to the waitress and asked why we paid £11 for this and she said email and you will get a refund, and recommended us to go to Olivia's Townhouse (which we did and had a great time). I am still awaiting a response despite emailing and messaging on Instagram.

Abigail was very accommodating and fun! She made you feel welcomed from the beginning. We tried the Candy Kiss and Love Punch Cocktails which we saw all over instagram, both were incredible and looked so good! We spent all afternoon here and ended up having a ???? Garlic Dough Balls & Chocolate brownie - we might have overdone it ;) but it was worth it! 10/10

AVOID ! AVOID ! AVOID!My friend and I paid £11 each for a club night event. No one was there. Waitress told us email to request a refund..no replies despite emailing several times and they're not answering their phone. This has also been another reviewer's experience so clearly a trend.AVOID this dishonest, cheating establishment

Saw the lacehouse place on Instagram and was looking forward to checking it out. Visited for a Bottomless Brunch on Saturday afternoon, it was busy with nice vibe and big groups of people enjoying themselves. There's a wide selection of cocktails as well as good variety of wine and beers, which seemed to be very popular. Pizza are delicious, cocktails delicious and service attentive and friendly. Looks like it's going to be our new favourite local. Keep doing what you're doing!
