1-star review due to food poisoning and most importantly lack of appropriate response from management. We went for dinner with my wife and had the exact same dish. Roughly 6 hours after, both of us started feeling stomach cramps which then turned out to be pretty severe food poisoning with all the worst signs. My wife and I didn’t eat lunch from the same place and had no snacks during the day…My wife had to spend the entire day in bed while trying to breastfeed our 5-month old baby. It’s been four days and we still have symptoms.Yet the management response couldn’t be poorer.Firstly we had to wait almost 48 hours for the general manager to call us after emailing, going there in person and chasing by phone. When she called she didn’t apologise once. Not once. She told us a third party would investigate the case fully, including by calling us and give the parent company a report. It’s been five days and we still haven’t heard from that third party investigator. So I trust that the fridges have been wiped and the kitchen cleaned and the investigation will reveal nothing? The appropriate response from a general manager in the hospitality industry would have been to apologise, and offer compensation so we can move on, then go and do your internal investigation to ensure it doesn’t happen again.Instead the manager focused on not accepting liability, making us feel cheap suspected grifters.

Our recent visit to your hotel left us wondering if perhaps we came here a little early. Halloween would've been a more fitting time judging from the fact that we could've fallen victims to little sleep. After a nice walk around one of the nearby villages, we retrated to the bar for some food. All of it was delicious. I have never tasted food like it. Hats off to the chef for his wonderful culinary skills. The same can be said about breakfast. We ate and we ate. Who knew that something so simple like breakfast could provide us with that much choice? Hot food, pastries, cereal. It was like entering Heaven. But above all else, the best thing about this place is the manager. Becky, I think. My kids almost dropped to the floor when seeing her. Walking around like something out of A Nighmare on Elm Street, her team must struggle to sleep at night. Luckily, my two slept well...

As Father of the Bride, I connot fault this hotel. Laura is the wedding co-ordinator and along with the Bride planned her day to perfection. All the staff have my thanks as nothing was too much trouble and they worked so hard to make every ones day special Thank You all

Burford is by far the best town to base you delft for a few days in the Cotswolds. There are plenty shops, bars, restaurants and things to do. The area is gorgeous. I took a long run along the country roads and it was too beautiful. The Bay tree was fabulous. Great, friendly staff and clean room. Fantastic breakfast each morning. Only complaint, our toilet didn’t flush well without pumping the handle vigorously. Otherwise, no complaints

My favourite place to stay in Burford. This time we were allocated a Lovely room overlooking the garden, and really enjoyed everything about the place, great location, friendly atmosphere, good food.

The hotel has a lovely location down Sheep Street off the main road/high street in Burford. The hotel has a good sized car park at the rear which in a Cotswold town is an added bonus. The reception staff were welcoming and we were shown to our room. Kempster. The room was a Superior Garden View Room. It was spacious and had a a lovely view over the garden /French door which was pleasant. It was not however worth anywhere near what we had paid. + Plus Points: Spacious room, bed comfy, good range of tea/coffee and chocolates, bed side clock and little lobby area to hang coats and take off footwear. Iron and Ironing board supplied. _ Minus Points: Dusty, the lounge chair arms were dirty and sticky, wardrobe door handles sticky. No pillow protectors. Bathroom very dated - the sink had a plug and a narrow bath with shower over, very dusty along the skirting board, radiator filthy, walls badly marked and dirty, the plastic strip along the bottom of the shower screen was black. Paint work in a sad state of repair. There was no where to hang towels except for one hook on the back of the door. Inside the toilet basin was scratched and marked. The floor was dirty too. Meals: We ate in the restaurant one evening which is bright and airy - it has a good menu and service was good. The food was good (not excellent). A reasonable wine choice. Drinks were expensive in the bar along with the 12.5% service charge added which we were not told about when ordering at the bar and taking the drinks to the table ourselves. £16.82 for a Moretti and a single Chase Gin with lemonade. Breakfast was very good with a good choice of buffet items along with items to order from the menu even Eggs Benedict. The full English was a good size and service again was very good. The breads were very good. Looking at images of the hotel other bedrooms have better bathrooms than the one we stayed in. I am wondering if it is because the booking was made through Hotels.com and not directly with the hotel we were allocated one of the poorer rooms?

Lovely place, really nice room with comfy bed. Huge bathroom. Stayed in The Shilton Room. Reception very helpful & friendly, showed us to room. 2 reasons never gave 5 stars….. Firstly we brought our 2 dogs, whom I may add were made very welcome. Website states £20 for dog with 2nd at 1/2 price, bed & bowl included in room with a sausage at b/fast. No bed or bowl in room for either dog, sausage was greatly received by both at b/fast, but they charged £40 which I queried, they then reduced by £10. Secondly……. We always tip, but there was a 12.5% service charged for literally pouring a pint at the bar, no table service given. Think this should only be applied to waiter service/food bills. Overall would probably stay again

We arrived after a 4 hour journey from Cornwall to be told we had a free complimentary upgrade. All sounds very nice until you are shown to a room which has a 4 poster bed which is so high that you need a step ladder to climb on. We went back to reception and said thank you but we don't want the "upgrade" to be told they have no other rooms available. We believe this to be sharp practice by the hotel to use a room that is quite obviously under used. The assistant manager was not able to offer a suitable option as they had no other rooms not were there any rooms at the nearby sister hotel. We were offered a free meal but that really wasn't helping the situation what we needed was a bed for the night. We left the hotel and drove 3 hours to home . We had booked through booking .com who gave been excellent and have taken the issue up with hotel and refunded us in full. Please beware of this bad practice and do not book the beech room if you have even the slightest mobility issues.

An absolutely stunningly beautiful hotel. If you want a quaint gorgeous Cotswold experience hotel this is for you, individual rooms decorated to match the beauty of the building. Delicious breakfast.

Good room, friendly helpful staff. Breakfast had good cooker options and buffet. Restaurant food was good but not best value. Apart from a noisy guest in a room near us on second night great venue.

Very nice room albeit not in the main part of the hotel. Good bathroom with plenty of space. Very nice cosy hotel in the edge of the Cotswolds with good restaurant with a 'sister' hotel along side for a bit of verity.

We had afternoon tea at The Bay Tree - and it was fantastic. We had a choice of savory or sweet and both were absolutely delicious and filling. A great example of afternoon tea. We sat in the garden in the sunshine. I must mention Becky who was brilliant in helping me out with a problem.

A great find. Lovely comfortable room and bathroom with good quality toiletries. Delicious breakfast with every option included in price. Fantastic service in every area. Few minutes walking distance from Burford High Street.

Burford is all honey-coloured stone and the Bay Tree Hotel is no different. Our room (Asthall) was very comfortable and clean. It was located in the annex, separated from the main building by a small road. The hotel itself is just off the high street, which is a typical tourist centre with coffee shops and antique stores. Breakfast was good - full English! - in the restaurant where we also had dinner. Be aware that access to some rooms is up and down stairs in the annex (we stayed in the furthest room from the annex door). Not a problem for us but if mobility is an issue, please raise it with the front desk. Recommended!
