The lack of choice for vegetarians on the lunch menu was extremely disappointing. We won't be visiting again.l

I met a friend at the Deddington Arms for lunch today, we used to meet here a lot as it’s half way between our homes and they used to do an amazing fish finger sandwich, (sadly not anymore!) We had coffee when we arrived, a black coffee and a cappuccino. My cappuccino had lots of froth and chocolate, great start…but it soon went downhill, the coffee was bitter, and tasted just like a filter coffee. We ordered a sandwich each and a portion of chips between us. We were charged an extra £3.12 service charge on top of the menu price for the food. I didn’t even get a receipt for the coffee to see if a service charge was added. When I got back to my table I checked the menu, it does say in small print that a service charge is added….Pretty disgraceful, surely a tip should be at the customers discretion? The sandwich menu was very limited, just cheese for vegetarians but it looked good when it arrived, the bread was nice and thick cut. However, the chips were nasty… they tasted greasy with a funny after taste, we think the oil must have needed changing. We ate a few drenched in salt and vinagar but even that couldn’t mask the strange taste so more than half were left. All in all nice bread but the rest very average. And the surcharge added to the menu prices automatically is wrong wrong wrong! I leave a tip if I feel the service deserves a tip,

Met up with the family for a Saturday lunch and just very underwhelming. I had a tuna baguette and very much like the par baked baguette you can get with little flavour. Most of the other meals where on the same level, disappointing. Nice selection of beers but served far too cold but perhaps just a very cold cellar? The restaurant was very quiet but on the positives the pub is nicely decorated and the service was friendly and pleasant. Would not rush back

Location is great, near the A road, but not on it. Parking too is excellent. Our bed was large and comfortable, and there’s loads of very hot water. The breakfast is perhaps the highlight – a perfectly sized, cooked and presented Full English. However the whole place is tired, and in need of a good refurb. The electrics are dodgy! And you can’t plug your phone in near the bed, a modern day must have. Dead bulbs, chipped paintwork and dusty surfaces point to poor maintenance and upkeep. And the bar – well just to say go to the Red Lion across the square if you want a friendly buzzing pub that serves decently priced food.

I used to go to Deddington arms 10 years ago and it was amazing food. But haven't been here for years now. I use the facilities before I went to sit down. There was no toilet roll. So I mentioned to the lady who seated me and she seemed to either not understand and sort of smirked and went on her business. The drinks order taken and then food order. I had mackerel for a starter. The mackerel was hot, had lots of bones and the potatoes salad was very cold and bland. I had to pop to the toilet for 2 mins and came back and they had cleared my table so had to be reseated and a new drink and wait for my Sunday roast. Again I mentioned there was no toilet roll in either loo. It took quite a while for the food to come. It was plonked on the table. No asking if I'd like sauces. The staff all seemed very vacant. Busy but not to be able to read when somebody needs something and when asked their English prohibited them to understand properly. When trying to get the attention of somebody by saying excuse me....... The guy who was on the next table cleaning completely ignored me until I waved and stood up. Food was okay. Meat was okay. The potatoes were either kept warm or reheated and weren't pleasant. The plate was small. I'd seen some other customers near me with huge plates which gave me a good idea of what I might get. I dont usually order roasts. But this sold it to me. £18 for 3 potatoes and Yorkshire pudding, a carrot and parsnip with some pork is not worth it. It was nothing special at all. I then paid and popped to the toilet again and it was still out of toilet roll. Luckily I always have spare but this isn't acceptable. I was very disappointed and years of recommending it. I will now be saying to avoid it. Not worth the money any more. Such a shame.

Welcoming staff greeted the three of us. We all had different mains - chicken & chorizo linguine, spiced salmon, burger - which were all great. Two deserts - coffee and Baileys cheesecake was excellent. Eton mess - ok. Reasonable prices, pleasant bar area and attentive staff.

Attracted by the offer of a cream tea, we visited this hotel for a three nights stay. Our room was comfortable and our welcome was warm. Parking on-site was plentiful. The cream tea, scones, were delicious and the restaurant was exceptional in that the choice of breakfast fare whether a continental breakfast, cereal or a full English was requested. Our full English arrived promptly each morning and they arrived quickly and hot. It was perfect every morning with gluten free toast as requested. On the last evening we enjoyed a meal in the restaurant with wine and were not disappointed. Portions were generous and everything was cooked to perfection. 'Angelo' prepares a mean Irish coffee. Our waitress, Adele, assisted by 'Soloman' each day could not do enough to make our stay a success. I would recommend this hotel as it is placed mid-point between Oxford and Bletchley. In addition, the bus to and from Oxford leaves from almost outside the hotel. Leave your car for the day?

The Deddington Arms is my regular stop off point when I travel to Cheltenham. On my two visits this week, Sunday and Friday, the service was as ever excellent.Always a warm, polite, friendly greeting.Coffees and hot chocolate drinks are good value and competitively priced. On this occasion, we only had a bowl of chips each as a quick snack. Very large portions, well cooked and tasty.Meal choices are excellent and food good. The pub area is olde world and its lovely when the open fire is burning.

We've had a wonderful and thoroughly enjoyable two nights stay. The hotel is very comfortable and very nicely furnished downstairs with and open fire in the bararea and a large attractive restaurant. Meals were excellent snd plentiful with a good choice on the menu. Our rooms were very comfortable and spacious with the essential tea and coffee and an informative Welcome Pack. Staff were very helpful and attentive and always on hand, giving excellent service. We've had a great, relaxed two days here and would fully recommend a visit.
