Bit embarrassing taking friends to this place. The food was really poor. They’d been busy and had run out out of a few menu choices - what we had was cobbled together from leftovers I think. Fawlty Towers at its best.

Having been let down by a nearby establishment who couldn't provide a basic steak dinner we dropped back into an old haunt. Despite having a large party outside having a drink the manager quickly made us feel at home. A superb menu choice with excellent stocked bar. Brilliant service, great food and a warm welcome. What more do you want? Thank you to all at The Envelode.

Food is extremely poor for the price. We had gammon, chicken burger and a beef burger. All of which were dry and bland. The sort of food you’d expect in weatherspoons not for £20 a burger! Service was slow and not friendly. Definitely would not come here again.

Booked a room here for one night's stay. Lovely room, clean and very comfortable. Had steak and chips for dinner - perfectly cooked, and staff couldn't have been more friendly and attentive. Will certainly be back.

We especially chose the pub as it states dog friendly but we felt anything but! It felt the were dog tolerant not dog friendly. We were greeted rather frostily by a waitress with oh you have digs then you WILL have to stay in the bar area!!!! No welcome to us or our well behaved dogs! The staff seemed to avoid the dogs by staying three steps away and leaking over , took no interest in the dogs at all and did not even bother offering the dogs some water on a very very hot day! Our well behaved dogs are much better behaved than some children and they are not mere pets but are our family! The food was not good and all of our gammon steaks were all fatty and hardly edible! We did not feel welcome and tolerated! Even when we ordered the waiter said can he quickly take our order so chef can get started as it takes 15 minutes to get going!!! Very unwelcoming indeed! You are either dog friendly or you are not!!! Don’t pretend you’re dog friendly when you’re clearly not!

We visited late afternoon after the Foodie" at Blenhiem palace. What a mistake! My wife had the Rissotto that was fine I had a beef and ale pie and my sister in Law had the Sunday Roast Beef. The pie was inedible. The pastry was so hard that i could not cut it or even chew it.Hw it was cooked God only knows. I pointed this out to the wiatress who apologised and took it away. She came back and asked if iI wanted another pie or something else as the Chef! could not guarantee another pie would not be the same. I had the Roast beef. Another mistake it was like leather, vegetables almost raw and the "Crispy Roast" potatoes, 2, were hard and obviously Bombay roast, fried. My sister in law said after that hers was the same. We left after paying the bill no adjustment was made, deciding it was not worth pursuing at this time. I emailed the Manager who was apologetic and would "Take it up with my team" and offered a 30% discount and a bottle of wine on my next visit. Not practical as I am the driver and are not in the area frequently. I asked for an expalnation of why the food was so bad and are still waiting. Needless to say the Evenlode is not on my list of places to eat. in retrospect I should have refused to pay for the beef dinners and left my details for them to take any action.

My husband and I dined here for Sunday lunch with my aged godfather. The booking process was slick, and we were told that our preferred time of 1pm was not possible but 1230pm was fine. The booking confirmation came through for 1245pm. Perfect. On arrival the place was pretty empty and so we didn’t understand the issue with 1.00pm slot not being available. Staff very friendly and good service. We ordered the set 2 course Sunday lunch and we all chose beef. The starters were pretty tasteless especially the hummus. But the real disappointment was the very very tough and sinewy roast beef and the tepid Yorkshire Puds. I could manage to cut off 50 % of edible meat.

Came here for Easter Sunday lunch. Had absolutely no complaints. Fantastic food - we all had roast dinners. Plenty of food, all hot and really tasty. Recommend the option of the additional sides too as they were all lovely. The staff are all super friendly and extremely efficient too. They have a great team there. The bar area and restaurant and both really lovely too.

Drive here especially from hotel as had come before and it was excellent what a disappointment! Food had to go back salad full of fat and smothered with vinegary sauce came back with a bowl full of lettuce for £16! Jumbo scampi not jumbo and had eight chips for £16 not good!

Visited with 16 family members for two of their birthdays. Had difficulty finding a local restaurant to accommodate a party of that size. Was no problem booking the Evenlode, we pre-ordered and am happy to say that every meal came out at the same time, was hot with plenty for everyone. Lovely selection of vegetables and huge yorkshires. Service was excellent, couldn’t fault anything

Waitress was really helpful and a credit to you. I ordered the beef bourguignon and not only was it luke warm but instead of using baby onions at the last minute they chopped small pickled onions in half and added to the dish!!!! made my dish rather vinegary, which wasnt nice!!! one of my friends ordered the Chicken,Ham and leek pie and that was checked twice by a different waiting staff member, he actually got a Steak pie. As we werent check on he just ate it and my wife had a small fish and chips, lets just call it a childs portion!! A gratuity was added to our bill which we refused to pay, would have tipped our waitress who was great but all tips would be shared and we didnt think that was right? We wouldnt come back to the Evenlode as the food was less than average and for the price.

Write your review Such a shame! Used to be a wonderful place to be and very inviting. These days it seems that Daniel and his team are more concerned about emptying the restaurant than filling it! Multiple tables turned away (in a half full pub) and a very very small reduced menu, as they were busy!!! The culture of this establishment has become more "what do you want" rather than "what would like". When customers become a inconvenience I thinks it's time to take a long hard look at the management

I travel quite a bit for business, and this is one of the best I've stayed in for quite a long time. The room is tasteful and comfortable, the beer selection is superb, and the food is fabulous. Whenever I am in this area I will try my hardest to stay here again.

We visited today for a family lunch with my sons family and mother in law from Portugal. The food arrived at different times, my son had to ask when the rest of the food would arrive. My wife’s gammon was stone cold and uncooked on the middle, the egg white was runny. Our sons mother in law, who was visiting from Portugal was served cold fries. They offered to replace the gammon but as we had waited so long, we declined. They didn’t offer to replace the fries. The deserts order was all wrong, they replaced the Fruit salad that arrived with sorbet on the bottom with a fruit salad that had just melon, hard pineapple, bits of mushy kiwi and 3 thin strips of strawberry. They only took the price of the gammon off the bill, I think after all the problems they should have given more as an act of an apology. They didn’t even refund for the fries. Very Very disappointed. Such a shame as we were treating our son and his wife ( who are both Doctors) , and the grandchildren and the lovely lady from Portugal.

I was here for lunch but unfortunately they were not taking food orders due to the fact they were so short staffed but still an excellent pub
